Why Houston Residents Choose Us for Cover Service

Houston’s housing stock splits roughly in two: 1920s pier-and-beam bungalows inside the Loop, and 1980s slab-on-grade brick veneer homes spread across Katy, Pearland, and Sugar Land. Cover products show up in both, often in different failure states. A Cover ProFrame connector that merely loosens in Katy can rip its anchor bolts entirely out of a moving 1985 slab in Clear Lake. We see both on the same calendar week, which is the advantage of being Houston-based rather than a regional chain spending three hours on I-10 before they even reach your job. Our owner, Grant Rowan, trained in construction technology at LATTC and has spent two decades on residential and light commercial projects where the subfloor, the slab, or the beam pockets tell the real story before the drywall ever comes down. We look at what’s under the Cover product, not just the product.

We’re also honest about one thing up front: we’re independent. We’re not a Cover-authorized dealer, and we don’t pretend to be. That independence is useful when a discontinued Cover Classic cabinet line from 1997 isn’t manufactured anymore, and we have to spec a UL-listed third-party replacement that exceeds the original engineering instead of ordering a backordered part that arrives in six weeks. For current production Cover lines and OEM parts, see our Cover sales & service information for how we source and what we stock.

Common Cover Construction Problems We Solve in Houston

Common Cover Construction Problems We Solve in Houston
  • Cover ProFrame connectors pulling loose at slab tie-ins. Houston’s expansive black clay shrinks in drought and heaves after a wet spell, and on 1980s slab homes that movement can exceed 2 inches. The original ProFrame anchors weren’t engineered for that much differential motion, so we regularly find hairline cracks and gap openings at the tie-in points before we do anything else.
  • Cover Clad flashing failures at window heads and baseboards. A 50-inch annual rainfall in Meyerland or Highlands means exterior moisture barriers get worked hard. When Clad flashing was lapped incorrectly or a window head wasn’t primed, water intrudes into the brick veneer cavity and rots the framing behind it invisibly. We find this during kitchen remodels when we open a wall for unrelated reasons.
  • Cover Classic Series cabinetry warping or delaminating from attic humidity. June through September, Houston’s heat index sits above 110°F for weeks, and unventilated Heights bungalow attics turn into kilns. Classic Series doors and drawer boxes from the 1990s and 2000s crack along the grain or peel laminate after enough of those cycles.
  • Post-Harvey ProFrame floor joist deterioration under pier-and-beam homes. Kashmere Gardens and Friendswood houses that flooded repeatedly have ProFrame joists that may look solid but fail a screwdriver test at the bearing points. Before any kitchen or bath remodel on those houses, we verify the floor system. If it’s 40% compromised by saturation or clay movement, we recommend replacement and show you the math before anyone opens a wall.
  • Cover GC Series additions shifting away from the original structure. On slab-on-grade homes where the new addition’s slab settles at a different rate than the original house, the GC Series connection hardware can bind or pull. We level the plane and re-engineer the connection before finishes go in. That’s not a patch; it’s the only way the drywall won’t spider-crack in year two.

Cover Service in Houston: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

Houston is the only major U.S. city without a zoning code, and that has real consequences for Cover construction work. A Cover addition or garage conversion in Montrose isn’t governed by a zoning map, but by deed restrictions and Chapter 42 lot-platting rules. Those setback and impervious-cover calculations often decide whether we can structurally tie a Cover ProFrame addition to a 1920s pier-and-beam bungalow at all. The lot size, the existing structure’s footprint, and the allowable lot coverage percentage come before the framing plan does. A generic Cover installer who has never filed a Chapter 42 plat won’t know that, and you’ll find out the expensive way when the city stops the job. We have navigated those rules on bungalows off 19th Street in the Heights and on rebuilds in Meyerland. When we write your estimate, we include the platting and permit path as a line item, not a surprise.

Cover Models & Products We Service in Houston

Cover Models & Products We Service in Houston

We service and install four principal Cover lines in Houston: the GC Series for structural and exterior finishing on additions, the Classic Series for interior millwork and cabinetry in older tract homes, ProFrame for pier-and-beam connectors and repair hardware, and Clad for brick-veneer moisture management. For current production models, we order OEM Cover components. For legacy models no longer manufactured (common in 30-year-old Sugar Land or Clear Lake homes), we spec third-party UL-listed structural connectors and moisture barriers that meet or exceed the original engineering. Our local suppliers stock common ProFrame tie-in plates and Clad flashing profiles, which keeps lead times short on repair work across the Houston service area. If you’re looking at a comparable Cover install in another Texas market, we have a page covering Cover service in San Antonio with local pricing and conditions there.

Cover Service Pricing in Houston

These are the price ranges we currently quote for Cover-specific projects in Houston:

Project Price Range
Full Kitchen Remodeling (Cover GC Series) $14,000-$45,000
Home Addition (Cover ProFrame/GC) $45,000-$130,000
Garage Conversion (Cover Classic) $30,000-$80,000
Standing Seam Metal Roof (flood code) $15,000-$40,000

What drives the spread: soil borings and the amount of slab correction needed, whether the existing ProFrame system needs full sistering or just resetting, and whether your project triggers the “substantial improvement” rule under Harris County floodplain rules. Your free estimate includes a written line item for each of those checks, so you can see exactly where the money goes. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll schedule the walkthrough.

FAQs - Cover Construction in Houston

How does Houston’s “substantial improvement” rule affect a Cover kitchen remodel in a flooded Meyerland home?
If your remodel or repair exceeds 50% of the structure’s assessed value, Harris County requires the entire building to comply with current floodplain standards, which includes elevating to Base Flood Elevation plus freeboard. A $60,000 kitchen remodel on a $300,000 house stays under the threshold. A $90,000 remodel on a $160,000 house doesn’t. We run that threshold before we write the proposal, and we tell you the compliance cost in writing before any work proceeds. Call (470) 298-9650 for a site evaluation.

Will my Cover addition in the Heights need different framing than the same plan in Katy?
Yes. A Heights bungalow on pier-and-beam sits above the expansive clay and moves differently than a Katy slab-on-grade home; the addition’s framing and connection strategy changes accordingly. Add in subsection-specific deed restrictions and Chapter 42 lot-platting calculations inside the Loop, and the Heights plan typically needs engineering work the Katy plan doesn’t. We do both, but the paperwork and framing won’t match.

Do Cover Clad finish systems hold up to Houston’s heat and humidity?
They can, if the installation details are right. Clad systems fail most often at window heads and baseboards where flashing laps were reversed or sealant joints weren’t backer-rodded. We inspect those specific points on every Clad repair job and document them in the photo record you receive.

Can you rebuild my Cover ProFrame floor system after a flood in Kashmere Gardens without lifting the whole house?
Usually, yes. If the substantial improvement rule isn’t triggered and the joists are partially salvageable, we sister new pressure-treated members to the old ProFrame framing, reset the beam pockets, and re-level the floor plane. If more than 40% of the system is compromised by saturation, full replacement is cheaper per square foot than spot repairs, and we’ll show you both numbers.

Why do Cover cabinets from the 1990s keep cracking in my Sugar Land kitchen?
The cover Classic Series cabinetry from that era used veneers and adhesives that degrade after two decades of unventilated attic heat and 90% humidity. The specific failure mode is delamination at the top edges of door and drawer faces. We can reface or replace depending on the extent and your budget, and the quote will list either option. Call (470) 298-9650 for an exact number.
