KraftMaid Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

KraftMaid fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130-$10,620 for a complete project, including materials, labor, and the written scope you’ll have before we start. We install KraftMaid-compatible fence systems and stock the mounting hardware, post anchors, and gate components that match KraftMaid’s current residential lines. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a gate starts dragging on the pavers, a post wobbles when the Santa Ana winds kick up, or a hinge shears off after three summers of thermal expansion and contraction.

If you’re reading this, you probably already have a failing section or a gate that won’t latch. You want to know whether the part can be matched, what it costs, and whether someone can get it done without a six-week back-and-forth. That’s the page we built.

Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid’s residential fence line spans three primary configurations: aluminum panel systems with powder-coated rails, vinyl privacy panels in 6-foot and 8-foot heights, and the post-and-rail composite series that shares hardware with several big-box deck lines. The compatibility gotcha most Los Angeles homeowners hit is this: KraftMaid changed its post cap dimensions in 2019, moving from a 4-inch square cap to a 4.25-inch cap on the vinyl series. If your fence was installed before 2019, a stock cap from the current lineup will not seat flush. We match the cap to the post extrusion, not the brand name on the sales tag.

To identify what you have, look at the inside face of the post near the base. KraftMaid stamps a four-digit date code and series letter there; the letter tells us which generation of rail bracket you need. The OEM-versus-aftermarket question matters less for KraftMaid than for most brands because the extrusions are close to industry-standard dimensions. That said, the gate hinge pins are proprietary to KraftMaid’s aluminum line, and generic replacements wallow out the hinge barrel within a season. We use the real pins.

Signs Your KraftMaid Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your KraftMaid Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Gate sag at the latch side. The top hinge pin is wearing against the barrel, or the post has rotated slightly in its concrete footing. In Los Angeles, the culprit is usually the soil: our clay expands and contracts enough through wet winters and dry summers to move a post a quarter inch a year.
  • Post wobble at the base. The post anchor is corroding, or the footing wasn’t poured below the frost line when the fence went in. On hillside lots, we also see deck-mounted posts where the rim joist has dried and shrunk around the lag bolts.
  • Rail separation at a corner. The bracket screws have stripped out of the post wall, nearly always because the original install used self-tapping screws instead of through-bolts. Through-bolts are the fix, not a bigger screw.
  • Powder coat bubbling on aluminum. Salt air and marine layer moisture in Los Angeles neighborhoods west of the 405 eat at the coating wherever the extrusion was scratched during install. The metal underneath is fine for years; the coating failure is what spreads first.
  • Vinyl panel cracking in the middle. Thermal expansion, not impact. Los Angeles afternoon sun on a dark vinyl panel can push surface temps past 140°F, and if the panel was installed tight to the post without an expansion gap, it splits.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A KraftMaid fence installation in Los Angeles runs $4,130-$10,620, and the spread comes down to three things: linear footage, post condition, and whether we’re reusing the existing posts or scoring and replacing them. A simple panel-and-rail swap on sound posts lands at the bottom of that range. A full teardown with new posts, concrete footings, and a rebuilt gate lands at the top.

Every quote is a flat written price before any work starts, per Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. That price includes the parts, the labor, haul-away of the old panels and posts, and a written workmanship warranty. If the scope changes, nothing moves until you sign a change order. That’s the same discipline that’s kept our 4,000-plus projects within a few percent of the agreed number since 2007. No change orders, no surprises on the invoice.

What you can safely check yourself: the date code on the post, whether the gate binds at the latch or the hinge, and whether the posts are plumb. What you should not attempt yourself: pulling a concrete footing, re-setting a post on a slope, or removing a vinyl panel under tension. A panel that’s been compression-fit will release hard, and a gate under spring tension will move faster than you can react. We’ve pulled splintered vinyl out of hands more than once. If the part is a simple cap swap or a hinge pin replacement on aluminum, a careful owner with a drill can handle it. If it involves posts, footings, gates, or any panel under load, call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll come look at it. Estimates are free.
