Cambria Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Cambria fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620 for a full perimeter replacement, with most homeowners discovering the need after a fence post shifts, a gate drags against the ground, or a retaining wall at the property line starts leaning. The part that fails first is almost never the brand name attached to it, it’s the connection between the post and the soil, and Los Angeles clay expands and contracts enough every winter-to-summer cycle to expose that weak point within five to seven years. We stock Cambria-compatible fence post anchors, hinge sets, and gate hardware on our trucks, and we can usually match an existing Cambria panel profile same-week.

Most owners call us after a heavy rain or a Santa Ana wind event. They notice a gate that won’t latch, a post that’s tilted two inches off plumb, or a bottom rail separating from the stiles. By then the failure has been underway for a season or more. Cambria fencing, like most composite and vinyl systems sold in California, fails at the connection points before the panel material itself gives out, which is useful to know because it changes the repair math: you may not need new panels at all, only new hardware and post setting.

Which Cambria Models This Applies To

Cambria manufactures fence panels in a few distinct series lines, and the compatibility question is the first thing we sort out on a walk-through. The legacy Cambria XT and Cambria Estate lines used a 2-inch by 3.5-inch routed post profile with stainless U-channels that slid over the panel ends, while the newer Cambria Modern line runs a heavier 4-inch by 4-inch post with internal aluminum stiffeners. They are not interchangeable. If you have an older Estate panel and someone sells you a Modern post, the panel end will rattle inside the channel and the whole run will telegraph movement on windy days.

Look for the stamped code on the inside face of the gate post or the bottom rail. It reads something like “CBR-4X4-AL” or “CBR-TONGUE-2020.” That code tells us the post gauge, the aluminum core spec, and the production year. On the aftermarket side, there are quality U-channel posts made in Riverside and San Bernardino that match the Cambria spec at 60 to 70 percent of OEM cost, and we stock both. Our rule: if the gate post is the failure point, we use OEM. If it’s a mid-run line post, the aftermarket equivalent is fine and we’ll say so on the written quote. Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Cambria; we just work with their products often enough to know the differences.

Signs Your Cambria Fence Installation Is Failing

Signs Your Cambria Fence Installation Is Failing
  • Gate drags on the pavement or won’t latch. This is the classic first symptom in Los Angeles. The gate post has rotated in its footing, usually because the original install used a 2-foot-deep concrete collar in expansive clay. When the clay swells after winter rain, it grips the collar and torques the post. The fix is pulling the post, setting it at 36 inches with a bell-bottom footing, and re-hanging the gate on new stainless hinges.
  • Post is out of plumb by more than two inches across a six-foot span. A post that’s visibly leaning has already lost its structural connection to the footing. Shimming the panel won’t help; you’re looking at a re-set or a full replacement of that post.
  • Bottom rail separating from the stiles. On Cambria’s extended-height panels (72-inch models), the bottom rail carries the most wind load, and the aluminum stiffener inside will sometimes work its rivet connections loose. We see this most on east-west runs in the San Fernando Valley that take the full brunt of Santa Anas.
  • Squealing or stiff gate hinge, especially after a dry summer. The stainless pin seizes inside the nylon bushing when fine dust gets into the grease. If you catch this early, we can clean and re-bush the hinge and keep the post. If it’s been grinding for a year, the bushing has wallowed out the post hole and you’re buying a new post.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from the post base. This is a sign the concrete footing itself was under-mixed or under-cured. The post may look fine, but the base is failing, and no amount of re-shimming will correct it.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For most Los Angeles homes, a Cambria fence installation or full replacement lands between $4,130 and $10,620. The range is driven by three things: linear footage, gate count, and what’s under the surface. A simple 60-foot run with one gate and clean access sits at the low end. A 160-foot wrap with two gates, a retaining wall at the property line, and old concrete footings to demo lands at the top.

The quote you get from us breaks out parts and labor as separate line items. You’ll see the exact post model, the exact hinge set, the concrete volume, and the hours. When we’re done, every visit includes a documented photo record of what we found and what we did, and the workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the written price is in your hand before anyone puts a shovel in the ground.

You can check the obvious stuff on your own: run a level against each post, open and close the gate a few times, look for the stamped model code, and walk the line checking for gaps between rails and stiles. That tells us a lot on the phone and helps us bring the right parts the first time.

What you shouldn’t do is try to pull and re-set a gate post yourself. A 72-inch Cambria panel with the aluminum core weighs over 90 pounds, and when the post comes loose, that weight has to be held in place while the footing is repaired. We’ve seen homeowners prop panels with a 2×4, have a gust come through, and lose both the panel and the neighbor’s car window.
