Delta Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Most Delta driveway and paver system failures in Los Angeles come down to one of three things: a broken edging restraint, a settled base layer, or a failed joint compound. We stock the full range of Delta-compatible replacement components and install them for $295 to $21,240 depending on whether you need a spot repair or a full driveway rebuild. You’ll usually spot the problem first as a paver that rocks underfoot, a hairline crack running across three or four units, or a low spot where water pools after a light rain. If you’re seeing any of that, here’s exactly what you need to know before you spend a dollar.

Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta’s driveway and paver line covers three primary series that show up throughout Los Angeles County: the DeltaStone Modular Series (used for driveways, walkways, and pool decks), the DeltaEdge Restraint System (the aluminum or composite perimeter channel that keeps paver courses from drifting), and the DeltaPermeable Pavers designed for areas where drainage matters, which in LA means most flat lots east of the 405. Identifying your exact part is straightforward if you know where to look. Flip any paver and you’ll find a stamped code, usually a four-digit batch number next to the Delta wordmark. On edging pieces, the profile height is the spec that matters most: 4-inch, 6-inch, or 8-inch. Getting that wrong means your new edging sits proud of the paver surface or disappears below grade, and neither one holds the course. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for paver units themselves, OEM Delta is the honest choice. The color match and dimensional tolerance on aftermarket copies varies enough that a patch job looks like a patch job for years. For edging and joint sand, quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard or Techo-Bloc work without compromise, and we quote both ways so you can see the math.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Rocking pavers underfoot. This almost always means the bedding sand has washed out through a failed joint or a broken edge restraint. The paver itself is usually fine; the system around it is what gave up.
  • Water pooling in flat areas. Los Angeles clay soil expands and contracts with moisture, and over five or six dry-wet cycles a once-flat base can settle half an inch without you noticing. Pooling water is the evidence that the base layer needs recompaction, not just a surface fix.
  • Hairline cracks running across multiple pavers. A single cracked paver is a paver problem. A crack line running through three or more units points to a base failure underneath, often from a tree root or an old utility trench that was never properly compacted.
  • Edging that’s pulled away from the course. Delta’s edge restraint relies on spikes driven into the base. Once a spike loosens, the whole perimeter begins to drift outward and the pavers follow. This is the cheapest failure to fix early and the most expensive to ignore.
  • Weeds or ant colonies at the joints. Joint sand compacts over time, but when it washes or blows out, the void becomes a seedbed. In Los Angeles, Argentine ants will colonize a compromised joint line within one season. The fix is re-sanding with polymeric sand and repairing the drainage that caused the washout in the first place.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here in Los Angeles, a Delta paver driveway repair runs from $295 for joint re-sanding and sealing up to $21,240 for a full DeltaStone driveway installation with a rebuilt base, new edging, and proper compaction. Most partial replacements we quote land between $826 and $2,950, which covers removing and resetting a settled section, reconditioning the bedding sand, and reinstalling the original pavers when they’re still sound. What drives the range is what we find when we pull the first paver: if the base aggregate is still clean and compact, the job is fast. If we find decomposed granite that’s turned to soup or tree roots running through the bed, that’s excavation and rebuilding, and the price reflects it. Every quote we write is a flat price with a written scope and a written warranty, and no work proceeds on any change until you sign the change order. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts. That’s how we’ve kept 4,000-plus projects within a few percent of the agreed cost since 2007.

Here’s the honest split. You can safely re-sand Delta paver joints yourself if the base underneath is still solid. Clear the joints, sweep in polymeric sand from Belgard or Techo-Bloc, mist it with water, and let it cure. You’ll know in a week whether it took. What you should not do is pull up a settled section and try to recompact a base without a plate compactor and a proper string line. The number of Los Angeles driveways we’ve seen with two-inch ripples from a homeowner’s hand-tamp experiment is not small, and the fix costs more than the original repair would have. If you’re seeing cracks across multiple pavers, edging separation, or pooling water, that’s a base failure under the system, and the evidence is what we document when we arrive. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll walk the site, write the scope, and give you a flat price before anything gets touched.
