American Standard Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

American Standard bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single fixture or gutting to the studs. We stock American Standard-compatible parts in our local warehouse and can usually match your existing model’s trim, valves, and dimensions without special ordering. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover they need this page because a cartridge has seized, a valve is dripping behind the wall, or a tub liner has cracked where the sealant failed years ago. The good news: the failure is rarely the whole bathroom. The bad news: the part buried in the wall is not the part you can see, and that distinction decides the price.

We’re an independent contractor, not an American Standard dealer or affiliate. That matters because we quote the job honestly, not the brand’s price book. If a $14 O-ring fixes the drip, that’s what we write on the estimate.

Which American Standard Models This Applies To

American Standard has run three main bathroom lines over the past two decades, and they do not share parts. Here’s the compatibility reality for Los Angeles homes built or remodeled since about 2005:

  • Cadet, Champion, and Titan toilet lines: These three use different flush valves. The Cadet 3 uses a 3-inch flush valve, the Champion 4 uses a 4-inch tower-style valve, and putting a Champion flapper in a Cadet tank leaks from day one. We carry all three on the truck.
  • Colony, Portsmouth, and Town Square faucet trims: These are the most common tub/shower valves in LA condos and postwar houses. The cartridges are not interchangeable between Colony (ceramic disc) and Portsmouth (cartridge with springs and seats). The trim kit may look identical on the outside.
  • OEM vs aftermarket: American Standard’s OEM parts carry a 5-year warranty on most cartridges and flush valves. Quality aftermarket equivalents, like those from Danco or Fluidmaster, cost 30 to 40 percent less and have a shorter service life. For anything behind the wall, we use OEM. For a flapper or fill valve swap, aftermarket is usually fine and we’ll say so on the estimate.

If you don’t know the model, look under the tank lid for a date code stamped in ink, or pop the trim plate and read the casting number on the valve body. We can identify the part from a clear photo in under five minutes.

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your American Standard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • The tub spout drips after the water is off. This is almost always a worn cartridge or valve seat inside the wall. In Los Angeles’ hard water, mineral buildup accelerates seal wear, and by the time you see the drip, the seat is usually scored.
  • The toilet runs for 30 seconds after every flush. If you own a Champion 4, the tower seal fails as it ages, not the flapper chain. Homeowners replace the flapper, the running continues, and then we get the call.
  • Low flow at the showerhead despite good pressure at the sink. Debris collects inside the valve body after a main line repair or pressure drop. On American Standard valves with integral stops, the stop seals are usually the culprit.
  • Water staining on the ceiling below a second-floor bathroom. This is not a fixture problem. It’s the tub surround or the shower pan membrane. The visible American Standard trim is fine; the membrane underneath has failed, and in Los Angeles’ 1930s and 1940s housing stock, the subfloor below is often rotten by the time the stain shows.
  • The tub surround flexes when you push against it. If you can feel the tile or surround move, the substrate behind it is compromised. That’s a water intrusion issue, not a loose tile, and it means the remodel scope just expanded behind the wall.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For American Standard bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles, here’s what the numbers look like, in dollars you can screenshot and compare:

  • Cartridge or valve replacement: $470 to $2,125, including the part, labor, and wall patching if we open the wall. Most jobs land around $700 to $1,100.
  • Toilet replacement with a new American Standard (or equivalent): $945 to $3,540 installed, depending on model and whether the flange needs replacement.
  • Full bathroom remodel with American Standard fixtures: $10,620 to $33,040. This includes new tub/shower valve, trim, toilet, vanity, flooring, waterproofing, and the signed change order that keeps the price where it started.

What’s included on every job: a written flat price before work starts, a written scope of work, the OEM or aftermarket part sources listed by brand and part number, and a written warranty on labor. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone picks up a tool. Under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if the work isn’t right, it gets fixed.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s an honest split here. If the problem is a flapper, a fill valve, a showerhead, or a visible tub spout diverter, and you can see the part without opening the wall, a homeowner with basic tools can usually handle it in an hour. We’ll even tell you what part to buy if you call.

The line is the wall. Anything requiring access behind tile, into the valve body, or under a tub surround is not a DIY job. Pressurized water inside a finished wall can do thousands of dollars in damage in a weekend. If you’re uncertain, call (470) 298-9650 and describe what you’re seeing. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a Saturday project or a Tuesday service call at no charge. Measure twice, say it once, show your work.
