Toto Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Toto kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, and most of what drives that range is the condition of the substrate under the fixtures, not the Toto components themselves. We stock Toto-compatible hardware on our trucks and can usually begin a kitchen remodel within a week of the written estimate being signed. The way most Los Angeles homeowners discover they need this work: a Toto faucet begins dripping at the base, a Toto sink shows hairline cracks at the drain collar, or a Toto undermount begins separating from the countertop after years of hard water and seismic settlement.

Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Toto, but we have spent the better part of two decades installing and working around their fixtures across Los Angeles County, and we know which parts fail, which ones don’t, and what a fair number looks like for either path.

Which Toto Models This Applies To

The Toto kitchen fixtures we see most in Los Angeles homes fall into three families: the Soiree and Legato undermount sinks, the Prominence and Luster pull-down faucets, and the Nexus and Tosto wall-mount or deck-mount bridge faucets. Each of those series has its own cartridge spec, drain assembly threading, and deck plate footprint, which matters when a homeowner tries to swap a faucet on a granite or quartz countertop that was drilled for a specific spread.

The first check is the label. Toto prints a model number on a foil sticker under the sink bowl, on the faucet body behind the handle, and inside the box if you kept it. The second check is the deck spacing: Toto wall-mount and bridge faucets generally use 8-inch centers, while their single-hole pull-downs use a 1 3/8-inch opening. If you’re replacing a Toto faucet with an aftermarket equivalent, the threading on Toto supply lines is G1/2, which is common but not universal. Getting this wrong means a callback and a wet cabinet, so we verify before we quote.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision: Toto OEM cartridges and spray heads are well made, but they are priced like OEM parts. There are quality aftermarket cartridges for the Prominence line specifically that perform identically and cost about 40% less. For sink drains and flange assemblies, the aftermarket options are generally fine. For anything involving the faucet body casting itself, we recommend OEM, because Toto’s brass alloy resists the mineral scaling that hard Los Angeles water causes on cheaper castings.

Signs Your Toto Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Toto Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Water seeping at the faucet base when the handle is closed. The cartridge O-rings have flattened from years of hard-water mineral buildup and temperature cycling. This is the most common Toto faucet failure we see across Los Angeles, especially in homes on unsoftened municipal water from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
  • The spray head won’t retract or sags from the spout. The counterweight inside the cabinet has slipped, or the spray hose has kinked against the cabinet back wall. Toto’s hoses are braided nylon, and the kink point is almost always where the hose exits the deck plate.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from the sink drain collar. This is usually not a Toto defect. It is years of thermal shock, over-tightened drain flanges, and the slow seismic movement every Los Angeles house experiences. Once the fireclay or vitreous china is cracked at the drain, the sink is done.
  • The undermount sink edge is separating from the countertop. The silicone bond has failed, usually because the original installer used an improper adhesive or failed to support the sink from below. The sink drops a millimeter or two, water penetrates, and the cabinet under it develops mold at the top of the side panels.
  • Reduced water flow even after cleaning the aerator. Debris has lodged in the cartridge inlet screen or the check valves inside the Toto pull-down spray head. If the flow is fine at the spray head but weak at the spout, the diverter inside the faucet body has failed.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Toto kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100, and the spread is almost entirely about scope, not about Toto versus another brand. At the lower end, you are looking at cabinet refacing or paint, new counters in a mid-range quartz, a Toto faucet and sink retained where possible, and a backsplash refresh. At the upper end, you are gutting the kitchen, moving plumbing, replacing cabinets with a KraftMaid or Wellborn line, and laying a Cambria or Silestone top. The Toto fixtures themselves are a small line item; the substrate behind them is where the money goes.

Every Rowan quote is a flat written price with a written scope and a written warranty. We do not give ballpark numbers and then send change orders later. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts and it stays that price unless you sign a change order for work you asked us to add. A documented photo record on every visit is included as standard, not an upgrade. If you have a quote from another contractor, we will review it line by line at no charge and tell you what we would do differently and what we would charge, in writing.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things yourself: look under the sink for kinked Toto supply lines, confirm the counterweight is hanging free above the shelf, and run the faucet with the spray head detached to isolate whether the restriction is in the hose or the body. That diagnosis costs you nothing and it helps us give you an accurate written quote faster.

Where DIY goes wrong is pulling the faucet or the undermount sink without knowing what you’re standing on. On a stone countertop, the sink is bonded and supported from below; cutting it loose incorrectly can crack the stone. On an older Los Angeles kitchen, the shutoff valves under the sink are frequently seized from mineral scale, and the moment you force one, you are now doing plumbing repair behind a cabinet that has to be pulled. That is a call to us at (470) 298-9650, and honestly, it is a call you want to make before you start, not after.
