Sterling Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Sterling kitchen remodeling components throughout Los Angeles, with full kitchen remodels ranging from $16,520 to $53,100 depending on scope, materials, and the condition of what’s behind the walls. Most Sterling-related kitchen failures we see involve cabinets that have shifted off their mounts, sink bases that have warped from repeated exposure, or countertop seams that have opened up. If you’re in Los Angeles and your Sterling kitchen is showing wear at the connection points, a documented inspection tells you whether you’re looking at a repair or a full remodel – and we put that in writing before any work starts.

Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s kitchen product line splits into two categories that matter for remodeling: the plumbing fixtures (sinks, faucets, drains) and the cabinetry lines sold through big-box retailers. The sink line is the most common point of failure in Los Angeles homes – particularly the vitreous china and stainless undermount models installed between 2015 and 2022. Those sinks use a specific clip-and-bracket undermount system, and the rubber grommets in that system dry out and crack in southern California’s low-humidity climate faster than they do in coastal markets. When those grommets fail, the sink drops a fraction of an inch and the silicone seal bead tears.

For cabinetry, Sterling’s stock line uses a cam-lock assembly with 5mm back panels, and the cam-locks are the weak point – they loosen over time under the repeated load of a full drawer or a heavy countertop. If you have a Sterling kitchen and you’re not sure which series you have, check the inside of a drawer box for a stamped code. It’ll start with either SK or KV followed by four digits. That code tells us the cabinet box spec, the hinge spacing, and whether the doors accept standard 35mm cup hinges. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for replacements when a Sterling match isn’t the right call – sometimes the aftermarket equivalent outperforms the OEM part on cost without losing any function.

We’re an independent contractor – not affiliated with Sterling. That means we’re free to tell you when an OEM Sterling part is worth the premium and when a spec-equivalent part does the same job for less. We’ll put both numbers in the written estimate.

Signs Your Sterling Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Sterling Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • The sink has dropped or the caulk line has split. The undermount bracket grommets have dried and compressed, which transfers the sink’s weight to the silicone bead. In Los Angeles, where the air is dry most of the year, this happens in as little as five years. The fix is remounting the sink with new brackets and a fresh seal – or replacing it if the rim has chipped.
  • A drawer face is crooked or won’t close flush. This is almost always a cam-lock that’s sheared inside the box. The lock cracks because it takes the full closing force of the drawer every time someone shuts it a little too hard. One bad lock starts a chain reaction: the face shifts, then the adjacent drawer starts catching, then the hardware strips.
  • The cabinet box has separated at a corner joint. Sterling’s 5mm back panels don’t hold staples well when the box is racked. If the cabinet was installed even slightly out of square, the joints work loose over a few years. You’ll see a visible gap at the corner or feel the box move when you press on it.
  • Water staining at the base of the sink cabinet. The drain flange gasket on Sterling sinks is a compression fitting that flattens over time. Once it flattens past a certain point, water wicks between the flange and the sink basin on every drain cycle. The cabinet floor darkens, then swells, then the cabinet is done.
  • The countertop seam at the sink has opened. This is the sink drop showing up on the counter, not a countertop failure. When the undermount drops even a sixteenth of an inch, it pulls the seam apart enough for water to start getting through. In Los Angeles, where granite and quartz rules, a failed seam usually means the sink is the problem, not the stone.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Los Angeles Sterling kitchen work, the installed price depends on what actually failed and what’s underneath it. A sink remount or replacement runs $2,360 to $7,670 when it’s part of a countertop job. Cabinet repair or replacement on a few boxes falls in the $4,720 to $15,340 range. A full kitchen remodel – cabinets, countertops, sink, fixtures, and the structural fixes behind them – lands between $16,520 and $53,100 across Los Angeles. That range reflects cabinet grade, countertop material, whether electrical moves are involved, and how much of the substrate needs rebuilding once the old boxes come out.

Every written estimate from us includes a line-item scope: parts, labor, disposal, and permit work if the project requires it. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that price is written before anyone picks up a tool. If the scope changes during the job – say we open the wall and find a plumbing supply line that needs rework – no work proceeds until you’ve signed a change order with the new number on it. That’s the discipline that’s kept us within a few percent of the agreed price across 4,000-plus projects since 2007.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground on Sterling-specific kitchen work. You can identify the failure without touching a tool: check the drawer box code, look for the split caulk line, press on the cabinet corners to feel for racking. What you should not do is attempt an undermount sink remount by yourself. The sink is heavy, the brackets are under tension, and a dropped cast-iron or vitreous china basin will take a chunk of countertop with it – or a finger. The same goes for any cabinet box that’s separated at the joint. That box is part of the countertop’s support path, and the repair needs proper shoring while the replacement goes in.

If you’ve already got a written estimate from another Los Angeles contractor, bring it to us. We’ll review it line by line at no charge and tell you whether the Sterling parts they’ve specified are the right ones for your model. Call (470) 298-9650 to schedule that review or set up a documented inspection.
