CertainTeed Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We install and repair CertainTeed roofing systems across Los Angeles, with most individual part replacements – shingles, flashing, vents, underlayment sections – running between $470 and $2,125 installed. We keep common CertainTeed-compatible parts on our trucks, so a leaking pipe boot or a wind-torn shingle course is usually handled in a single visit. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a problem the same way: a water stain on the ceiling after a Santa Ana wind event, granules collecting in the rain gutter, or a neighbor’s tree limb scraping across the ridge line during a storm.
CertainTeed roofs don’t fail all at once. They fail at the seams. The shingle that lifts. The flashing that separates from the chimney. The vent boot that cracks under UV after eight or nine years of direct Los Angeles sun. What we see on most roof inspections in this city is a system where ninety percent of the field is still sound, but the transition points – where one material meets another – have started to open up. That’s where water gets in, and that’s the work we do before it becomes a ceiling repair too.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s residential lineup in Los Angeles breaks into three families. The Landmark series is what most homes have – architectural shingles in two weights, Landmark and Landmark Pro. The XT series is the three-tab entry line, less common now but still on older roofs. Presidential Shake is the premium dimensional shingle that mimics hand-split cedar, and we see it on higher-end homes in neighborhoods like Hancock Park, Cheviot Hills, and the foothill communities. Each series has its own specifications, and the parts are not always interchangeable between them.
The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: CertainTeed manufactures different ridge cap colors and profiles for each shingle line. Putting a Landmark ridge cap on a Presidential Shake roof doesn’t just look wrong – the dimensions are different and the seal strips won’t align. We match by the bundle label when we can see it. When the label is gone, we measure the exposure, count the shingle courses per 100 square feet, and match the color from CertainTeed’s current sample board. For aftermarket equivalents, we’re careful here too. A generic vent boot or flashing that doesn’t match the original specification saves forty dollars up front and costs a leak two seasons later. On CertainTeed roofs, we use OEM or manufacturer-approved equivalents unless the homeowner specifically asks otherwise, and then we put that choice in writing.
Signs Your CertainTeed Roofing Is Failing

Here’s what we find on Los Angeles roofs when we’re called out:
- Granules in the gutter or at the downspout outlet. Shingle granules are the UV shield. Once they start shedding, the asphalt below them cooks. On a south-facing slope in Los Angeles, a shingle past its granule life can fail two to three years faster than the same shingle on the north slope.
- Lifted or curled shingle edges. The adhesive seal strips on CertainTeed shingles weaken over time, and the first wind event after that pulls the shingle tab up. If you can see the shadow under a shingle tab from the ground, water is getting driven under it during rain.
- A water stain on the ceiling that appears after wind-driven rain. This is almost always flashing, not the shingle field. The Most likely points: the chimney, the plumbing vent collars, and any roof-to-wall transition where stucco meets shingle.
- Moss or debris accumulation in valleys. Los Angeles doesn’t get much standing water, but the marine layer keeps north-facing valleys damp for hours every morning. Debris traps that moisture against the shingle, and the mineral surface starts to degrade at the water line. We clear valleys, not pressure-wash them.
- The roof is past year 18 with no record of a professional inspection. CertainTeed’s Landmark line is rated for a long service life, but ratings assume attic ventilation that actually works. Most Los Angeles homes built before 2000 don’t have balanced intake and exhaust airflow. Heat is the silent shingle killer here, not rain.
One thing we tell every homeowner: a roof that looks “fine” from the street can be failing at the ridge line or behind the chimney. The cost of the inspection is nothing compared to the cost of replacing sheathing because a leak ran for two years before it showed up on the ceiling.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For CertainTeed roofing in Los Angeles, here’s the price landscape:
| Service | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Individual shingle or flashing repair | $470 – $825 |
| Vent boot or pipe collar replacement | $590 – $1,180 |
| Valley or flashing section repair | $710 – $2,125 |
| Full tile roof repair (if applicable) | $710 – $2,950 |
| Complete CertainTeed roof replacement | $9,440 – $23,600 |
The range depends on access (one-story with easy ladder placement versus a three-story with a steep pitch), how many layers the crew has to work through, and whether we’re matching an existing CertainTeed color that’s been discontinued. If it’s discontinued, the honest answer is that the repair may not be invisible. We’ll show you the closest current color on the sample board and you approve or reject it before we order anything. Your quote includes parts, labor, haul-away of the old material, and a written workmanship warranty. No change orders on a repair this size unless we open something up and find rot underneath, and even then, the change order is signed before any additional work proceeds.
DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check from the ground: whether any shingles are visibly lifted, whether the flashing has separated from the chimney, whether the gutters are carrying granules. That’s useful information when you call us. What we ask you not to do is get on the roof. Even a gentle Los Angeles morning comes with dust on the tiles, a pitch that’s steeper than it looks from the driveway, and shingle surfaces that are slick when the marine layer burns off. A fall from a single-story roof does real damage. Call us at (470) 298-9650 and we’ll document what we find with photos before anything gets touched. If the repair is small, we’ll tell you that too. We’d rather earn your next project than sell you a repair you don’t need.
FAQs
In our Los Angeles climate, a properly ventilated Landmark roof typically performs for 20 to 25 years before the granule loss becomes significant enough to justify planning a replacement. Without proper attic ventilation, that number drops, and we regularly see accelerated wear on south-facing and west-facing slopes. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll assess your specific roof and attic.
If the shingle field itself is sound and the problem is isolated to flashing, a vent boot, or a few shingles, we repair it and document what we did. If the adhesive on the shingles is failing across multiple slopes, or the underlayment is compromised, patching a roof that’s already past its useful life is just buying a few years. We’ll show you the evidence either way before you spend a dollar.
Most single-part replacements – a vent boot, a section of flashing, a few shingles – take between two and four hours on site. If the job needs color matching or a part that isn’t on the truck, it becomes a two-visit job, with the second visit usually inside the same week.
We stock the high-failure items: common Landmark colors, vent boot collars, flashing stock, ridge cap in standard profiles, and sealants rated for CertainTeed’s modified asphalt. For less common items, like Presidential Shake colors or specialty venting, we order directly and the second visit is scheduled within days. We also stock compatible parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone projects, but roofing is its own truck, packed for the work it’s sent to do.
