Boral Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Boral bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 fully installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single failed component or rebuilding the entire wet area. Most Boral owners we hear from in Los Angeles discover the problem the same way: a crack that wasn’t there last month, a grout line that won’t stay sealed, or water staining the ceiling below a second-floor bath. If you’re holding a cracked Boral shower base or peeling Boral wall panel, the fix is usually measured in days, not weeks.
We stock Boral-compatible trim, adhesives, and replacement panels on our trucks because these materials fail in predictable ways after years of California hard water and thermal cycling. Grant Rowan started working with polyurethane millwork and composite panels during his years at LA Trade-Tech, and the lesson stuck: know the substrate before you order the surface. Here’s what Los Angeles owners need to know before calling anyone.
Which Boral Models This Applies To
Boral’s bathroom product line splits into two families in Los Angeles homes: the Boral WPS (Wet Panel System) wall panels and the Boral Ornamental and Structural polyurethane mouldings used for trim, niches, and baseboards. They’re different polymers, different thicknesses, and they fail differently. The WPS panels are 10mm to 11.5mm solid-core composite sheets with a sealed face. The mouldings and trim pieces are a lighter polyurethane foam with a hard coat skin.
Before you order anything, check the back or edge of the failed piece for a stamped lot code and dimensions. Boral WPS panels are commonly sold in 1200mm x 2400mm sheets, but Los Angeles installs we open up often show older 900mm x 2400mm remnants from the mid-2010s. Mixing panel generations without matching the tongue profile and sealant spec is the fastest way to turn a one-panel repair into a full surround replacement. For trim, the profile number matters more than the finish; we match existing Boral crown and casing by measuring the drop and projection on site, because Boral changed two common profile dimensions in 2019 without changing the SKU format.
We are an independent Los Angeles remodeling contractor. We’re not affiliated with Boral, and we don’t pretend to be. What we do is stock the parts that match what’s already in Los Angeles bathrooms and quote the replacement with a written price before anyone starts.
Signs Your Boral Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

- Swollen or lifting edges at panel seams. Water has worked past the silicone bead and is wicking into the composite core. Boral WPS panels use a moisture-resistant core, but the edge seals fail first, especially around the shower valve and tub lip where sealant sees daily water and soap chemistry.
- Hairline cracks radiating from screw holes or niche corners. Thermal expansion in Los Angeles, where a bathroom can swing 25 degrees overnight, puts repeated stress on the rigid panel. The crack is the symptom; the cause is usually a fastener that’s too tight or a cut corner that wasn’t stress-relieved during the original install.
- Grout or silicone that keeps separating from the Boral surface. The hard coat on Boral trim and the face of WPS panels is smooth. Standard silicone bonds fine, but any silicone with a high acetic acid content can fail prematurely. If the last two regrouts in the same joint cracked, the panel behind it is moving.
- Soft spots when you press on a wall panel or baseboard. The polyurethane foam core in Boral mouldings breaks down once water intrudes through a cracked coating. Press along the bottom edge of baseboards in a shower-adjacent wall; a soft Boral board means the tile or panel above it has been leaking longer than it looked like it was.
- Discoloration or rust staining at the base of panels. In Los Angeles, that staining is often from galvanized trim nails or drywall screws that were never meant to be inside a wet area. The moisture coming through the panel is leaching iron out of the fastener and onto the surface. It’s cosmetic until it isn’t; behind the panel, that fastener is losing its thread bite.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a single failed Boral component, installed prices in Los Angeles run from $10,620 to $33,040 depending on scope. A one-wall panel replacement with matching trim and new waterproofing at the seams is the lower end. A full Boral shower surround rebuild with new panels, trim, niche, valve trim, and substrate repair is the upper end. Here’s the breakdown driver, because we write it this way on every quote in Los Angeles:
- Substrate condition: If the wallboard behind the Boral panel is sound, the job is a clean uninstall, surface prep, new panel, reseal. If it’s swollen, we replace it. Usually one to two sheets of cement board and a day of labor.
- Panel generation matching: Older Boral WPS may require re-machining the tongue or switching to a butt joint with a cover trim. That’s a line item, not a surprise.
- Trim profile matching: If the existing Boral trim profile is discontinued, we mill or profile a near-match from the next closest Boral series. The difference is in the reveal shadow line; we show it to you before we order.
- Faucet and valve access: Boral work around the shower valve often requires a separate plumbing stop. We pull the trim plate, not the wall, where the valve body allows.
Every quote includes the parts, the adhesive, the sealant, the substrate work, the haul-off, and a written warranty on the installation. The price is written, flat, and signed before a single panel comes off the wall. No change order, no work. That’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the same document that’s governed every Rowan project since 2007.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the lot code, the thickness, and the profile dimensions of a failed Boral panel or trim piece without touching a tool. That information saves us a trip and saves you a second measurement visit, and we will use it to price the job ahead of time. You can also safely remove and inspect the silicone bead at a seam to see if water is getting behind it, as long as the shower isn’t in use and the area is dry.
What we don’t advise is cutting into a Boral wall panel yourself. The panels are rigid, the cuts are unforgiving, and the waterproofing behind them is a system. A bad cut means buying a second sheet, which in Los Angeles Boral supply terms can mean a two-week lead time and a remodel that started as a Saturday project. Water damage to the subfloor or the framing from an improper patch is more expensive than the labor you saved. Measure twice, say it once, show your work. If the panel is cracked, the trim is soft, or the seam won’t seal after two attempts, call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll bring the right panel match and a written scope.
FAQs
Boral WPS panels in Los Angeles homes typically last 12 to 18 years before edge seal failure or seam cracking shows up, depending on water chemistry and ventilation. Hard water in Los Angeles, especially in the Valley and foothill zip codes, shortens sealant life faster than the panel itself. Polyurethane Boral trim in regularly wet zones lasts 10 to 15 years before the skin coating gives out. Call (470) 298-9650 if your Boral is under 10 years old and failing; the cause is usually install-related, not material-related.
Small cracks and surface chips in Boral WPS panels can sometimes be repaired with color-matched composite filler and a re-seal, if the damage is limited to one panel face and the edge seals are intact. If water has reached the core or the panel is delaminating, patching is temporary and the panel needs replacing. We’ll tell you which one you have before quoting either; the photo record we take on every visit is the evidence, not the guess.
A single-panel Boral replacement in Los Angeles is usually one to two working days, including substrate inspection, panel installation, sealant cure, and cleanup. If we’re rebuilding a full Boral surround and replacing trim and substrate, plan for three to five days. The cure time on the sealant is fixed by the manufacturer; we don’t rush it, and we write the cure time into the scope so you know when it’s safe to use the shower again.
We stock Boral-compatible adhesives, sealants, trim profiles, and the most common WPS panel sizes on our Los Angeles service trucks, along with matching fasteners and substrate materials for the categories we carry, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone. For less common Boral profile numbers or discontinued trim series, we order from our Los Angeles supply partners and typically have the part within three to five business days. The quote you get accounts for lead time, so there’s no dead time on the job site.
If you’re in Los Angeles and the Boral in your bathroom is telling you it’s time, call (470) 298-9650 for a free replacement estimate. We’ll put the part match, the scope, and the flat written price in your hands before any work starts.
