CWS Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install CWS-compatible driveway and paver parts across Los Angeles, with most replacements running between $590 and $2,950 installed depending on the component and paver type. If your CWS driveway system has a failed edge restraint, a sunken paver section, or a broken drain channel, we can usually source the matching part same-week and have it installed within one visit. The way most Los Angeles owners discover the failure is gradual: a low spot after winter rain, a paver that rocks underfoot, or an edge course that’s started to wander into the lawn. By the time it’s obvious, water has usually been working the base for months.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with CWS. What we do is match their components honestly, price the repair in writing before the work starts, and document what we found with photos you keep.
Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS paver and driveway systems in Los Angeles fall into a few recognizable lines: their standard interlocking concrete paver (ICP) series, the permeable paver line, and the slab-style driveway pavers used on compacted aggregate base. The failure points differ by line. The ICP series tends to fail at the edge restraint first because Los Angeles clay soil expands and contracts with winter moisture, pushing the plastic or aluminum edging outward. The permeable line fails at the joint aggregate: once the joints clog with silt from a hillside or a construction project up the street, water stops percolating and starts pooling.
To match the part, we need the paver’s face dimension and thickness, which is usually stamped on the underside of a lifted unit. A 60mm paver used on a patio is not a driveway-rated 80mm unit, and substituting one for the other is the most common compatibility mistake we see on Los Angeles driveways. For CWS specifically, OEM replacement pavers carry a slightly different chamfer profile than big-box lookalikes, which matters if you care about the finished surface reading as one continuous field rather than a patch job. We’ll quote OEM first and a quality aftermarket equivalent only when the OEM line has been discontinued, because the color match on aged units is hard enough without changing the manufacturing source.
Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Are Failing

- Edge pavers drifting outward. The restraint has lost its spikes or cracked, and the whole field is slowly unzipping from the outside in. On a Los Angeles hillside driveway, this shows up fastest at the downhill edge.
- Rocking pavers in a traffic path. The bedding sand has washed out through a failed joint or an unsealed edge, leaving a void under the paver. It sounds hollow when tapped with a broom handle.
- Low spots that hold water after rain. The base layer has settled, usually because the original install skipped geotextile fabric on clay soil or the base was under-compacted. Los Angeles clay rewets and shrinks every season, and the settlement compounds.
- Weeds or ants pushing up between joints. The joint sand is gone, and what’s left is organic material. In Los Angeles, Argentine ants will colonize a sand-free paver joint within a season, and their nests accelerate base erosion.
- White efflorescence or spalling on paver faces. Water is sitting against the paver longer than it should, or a de-icing product was used that the paver was never sealed to resist. The surface starts to flake, and once the face is compromised, the color is gone for good.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Los Angeles, a CWS paver repair that stays under $1,000 is almost always a partial job: resetting a section of edge course, replacing a dozen cracked pavers, or re-sanding joints and sealing a small area. A full paver driveway installation runs $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, paver grade, and how much base reconstruction the existing site requires. Driveway replacement work, where the old surface comes out and the base is evaluated and rebuilt if needed, falls in the $5,900 to $16,520 range. Parts-only pricing for CWS pavers runs $4 to $9 per square foot depending on the line, and that’s folded into the installed number when we do the work.
Our written estimate separates material, labor, and base work line by line, so you can see exactly what you’re paying for before anyone touches the driveway. The quote includes the photo record of what we found, the written scope, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?

You can safely lift a single rocking paver, check what’s under it, and take photos. That’s useful information to have before you call. What goes wrong when Los Angeles homeowners try to fix a CWS driveway themselves is the base work: they reset pavers on uncompacted fill, skip the edge-restraint re-spike because it looks fine, and the repair fails in the same spot within a year. For a CWS permeable system, there’s also a real technical layer: the joint aggregate is specified at a particular gradation, and using play sand or all-purpose sand clogs the system and voids the runoff performance the design paid for.
Parts like paver replacement, edge restraint repair, and joint re-sanding are work we’re glad to quote in writing, and most Los Angeles jobs are done in a day or two once the material arrives. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll send someone who will measure what’s there, tell you what failed, and put the number on paper before any work starts. Measure twice, say it once, show your work.
FAQs
A correctly installed CWS paver driveway on a properly compacted base lasts 25 to 40 years in Los Angeles, with the pavers themselves outliving the base and edge restraints beneath them. What shortens that lifespan here is water: standing water from poor drainage, irrigation overspray, or a failed joint that lets the bedding sand wash out. The pavers themselves rarely fail first; the system around them does.
A sunken section can almost always be repaired without touching the rest of the driveway: we lift the affected pavers, re-grade and compact the base, reset the units, and re-sand the joints. The exception is when the settlement is widespread or the base was never installed correctly in the first place, in which case a section rebuild is cheaper long-term than chasing low spots one by one. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you which situation you have, with photos to back it up.
Most CWS paver repairs in Los Angeles are done in one day for an edge or joint repair, or two to three days for a section rebuild that includes base work and a new edge restraint. We schedule the work after the material arrives, and you’ll have a written scope before the crew shows up, so the timeline is part of the quote, not a conversation after the fact.
We stock common CWS edge restraints, joint sand, and sealer on our trucks, and we order paver units from our Los Angeles suppliers with a typical lead time of a few days to two weeks depending on the line and color. If the OEM line is still in production, we quote it; if it’s discontinued, we’ll show you the closest aftermarket match and let you decide before anything is ordered.
