ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own an ActiveYards outdoor kitchen or grilling space that’s showing its age, you’re not looking for a generic remodel, you’re looking for a contractor who understands how ActiveYards components go together and what it costs to rebuild them correctly in Los Angeles. A full ActiveYards kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100, depending on cabinet condition, countertop material, island footprint, and whether we’re replacing the structural frame or just the surfaces. Most owners discover they need us when a cabinet door won’t close square anymore, a countertop seam has opened up, or the stainless frame has started corroding at the welds from years of coastal air or sprinkler overspray.

We’re Rowan Construction Group. We’re an independent contractor serving Los Angeles, not a division of ActiveYards. We don’t sell ActiveYards parts on a rack. We quote a written, line-item price for the full rebuild and we install it. If you bring us a competing estimate, we’ll review it line by line at no charge. That’s the whole point of how we work.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards builds modular outdoor cabinetry and kitchen islands under a few distinct lines, and compatibility is more specific than most owners realize. The cabinetry line uses an aluminum frame system with polymer or stainless panel options. The grilling islands and outdoor kitchens, which are what we see most often in Los Angeles backyards, are built around either the standard-depth or deep-depth cabinet module. If you can open any cabinet door and look inside the frame rail, you’ll find a small label with a model number and manufacturing date. That label matters. A 2016 ActiveYards cabinet does not always accept a 2024 door or drawer front, because ActiveYards changed hinge bore spacing on some lines in 2019.

The practical decision any Los Angeles owner faces is this: do you buy OEM replacement doors and hardware from an ActiveYards dealer, or do we fabricate replacement panels and rebuild the frame to match the original footprint? For aluminum frame corrosion, we almost always recommend full frame replacement with a marine-grade aluminum and powder coat, because patching active corrosion in a salt-air environment rarely lasts more than two or three years. For cabinet doors, drawer fronts, and surface panels, aftermarket fabrication in stainless or high-density polymer is frequently less expensive than OEM and often carries better fitment once we measure onsite. But if the hinge geometry is the older 2019-and-under bore spacing, OEM may be the only door that fits without modifying the frame. We stock a range of ActiveYards-compatible hinges, drawer slides, and panel fasteners, and we’ll tell you honestly which route costs less for your specific line.

We also work with cabinetry and countertop lines throughout the rest of your home, including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so if your ActiveYards outdoor kitchen is part of a larger remodel, we can quote the whole job under one written scope.

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your ActiveYards Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Doors that won’t close square. This usually means the aluminum frame has twisted or settled, which is common on pavers or decomposed granite with poor drainage under the island. The cabinet doesn’t just need adjusting, the base may need to be re-leveled and shimmed.
  • White chalky residue or pitting on the aluminum frame. That’s electrolytic corrosion, and in Los Angeles it’s accelerated anywhere within five miles of the coast or near a pool with chlorine off-gassing. If you see pitting at the welds, the frame is failing structurally, not cosmetically.
  • Countertop seam separation or lippage. Outdoor countertops expand and contract with Los Angeles temperature swings, which can be 40 degrees in a single day in the Valley. A seam that opens more than 1/16 inch means the substrate underneath is moving, and that’s the real problem to diagnose.
  • Drawer slides that bind or drop. ActiveYards drawer slides are roller-type on most lines, and they collect fine dust and debris. If cleaning and re-greasing doesn’t fix it, the slide carrier is bent, and the drawer box usually needs re-squaring at the same time.
  • Discoloration or warping on polymer panels. UV exposure in Los Angeles is relentless. Polymer panels fade and can warp if they’re dark-colored and facing south or west. Once a panel warps, it pulls at its fasteners and transfers stress to the frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full ActiveYards kitchen remodel in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100. The spread comes down to three things: whether we’re rebuilding the aluminum frame or keeping it, what countertop material you choose, and the size of the island. Here’s how the pieces break down in our written quotes.

  • Cabinet installation: $4,720 to $15,340
  • Countertop installation: $2,360 to $7,670
  • Kitchen island installation: $3,540 to $11,800
  • Backsplash installation: $945 to $2,950

Every quote includes the demolition of the failing components, disposal, frame leveling, parts and materials, and a documented photo record of every visit. The written warranty on our workmanship is part of the flat price, not an upgrade. If your countertops are the only thing failing, we quote that alone. If the frame is compromised, we tell you before we quote the surfaces, because no countertop survives on a moving frame. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts, and no work proceeds on a change until you sign the change order. That discipline is why our projects finish within a few percent of the number you agreed to.

Some parts of an ActiveYards outdoor kitchen are safe to diagnose on your own. You can check cabinet alignment with a level, look for pitting on welds, and note whether drawer slides move freely. You can also take a photo of the model label inside the frame, because that saves our estimator a step. What you shouldn’t do is attempt to weld or patch an aluminum frame yourself. Aluminum welding requires specific equipment and a clean surface, and a poor weld on a structural frame rail means the whole island can shift under the weight of a granite top. That’s a lot of weight in the wrong place. Same logic applies to moving a stone countertop. A 10-foot by 4-foot granite top in 3-centimeter thickness can weigh over 800 pounds. That is not a two-person lift.

If the frame is sound and a door just needs to be re-hung, that’s a quick visit. If the frame is corroded or the base is unlevel, that’s a rebuild. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll put a written price in your hands before any work starts.
