Oldcastle Windows & Doors: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an Oldcastle window or door with a failed component in Los Angeles, we can match the part, price it in writing, and install it correctly. Most Oldcastle replacement parts for residential units run between $470 and $2,950 installed depending on the hardware, glass package, and whether the frame itself needs work. The way owners usually find us is straightforward: a window won’t lock, a sliding door grinds on its track, or a seal has failed and the glass fogs between the panes. We stock common Oldcastle-compatible balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping on our trucks, and we can order the rest with a written lead time before you commit.

Rowan Construction Group is an independent windows and doors contractor serving Los Angeles. We are not affiliated with Oldcastle, and we won’t pretend to be. What we bring is parts knowledge: the right match for the specific Oldcastle line you own, an honest read on whether repair or replacement makes more sense, and a flat price before anyone touches the window.

If you’re reading this because a part failed and you want it handled by someone who documents the work, you’re in the right place. Call (470) 298-9650 for a written quote on your Oldcastle part.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle has manufactured windows and doors under a few distinct residential lines over the years, and parts are not interchangeable across all of them. The most common units we see in Los Angeles homes are vinyl single-hung and slider windows from the mid-2000s through the mid-2010s, along with a smaller number of aluminum-frame units in older multi-unit buildings. The compatibility gotcha: Oldcastle vinyl window balances are sized by sash weight and length, not by a generic “Oldcastle balance” part number. If you pull a balance from a 2008 single-hung, it will not necessarily fit a 2015 unit of the same nominal window size.

The reliable way to identify the part is to remove the sash and read the stamp on the balance or the lock body. Many Oldcastle components carry a date code and a die number that tells us the exact generation. If the stamp is worn off, we measure the balance length to the half-inch and weigh the sash, since Oldcastle used different spring ratings across their vinyl lines. For rollers on sliding doors, we measure the wheel diameter and the housing width. For locks, it’s the hole spacing and the keeper profile. We have the measurement tools on the truck, and we document every number we take.

OEM versus aftermarket matters for Oldcastle more than for some other brands. Oldcastle’s OEM hardware was sourced from a rotating set of suppliers, and quality aftermarket equivalents exist for most locks, rollers, and balances. We’ll quote both when the aftermarket unit is genuinely comparable and tell you the difference in plain terms. If the aftermarket part doesn’t meet the same cycle rating, we won’t offer it as a savings. The point of a repair is that it stays repaired.

Signs Your Oldcastle Windows & Doors Is Failing

Signs Your Oldcastle Windows & Doors Is Failing
  • Window won’t stay open. The balance, the spring-loaded mechanism inside the sash channel, has lost tension or snapped. In Los Angeles, vinyl balances degrade faster than in cooler climates because sustained heat ages the internal spring steel.
  • Sliding door grinds or jumps on the track. The roller wheels have flat-spotted or the bearing has seized. We see this constantly in LA homes where pet hair and fine dust from the dry hills work into the roller housing.
  • Fog between the panes. The insulated glass unit seal has failed and moisture has entered the gap. This is not repairable, only replaceable. Coastal-adjacent Los Angeles neighborhoods see more of this because salt air accelerates seal breakdown.
  • Lock won’t latch or the keeper is loose. Frame settlement or repeated slamming has shifted the alignment. Sometimes it’s the lock, sometimes it’s the keeper, sometimes the sash itself has sagged out of square.
  • Drafts or visible daylight at the weatherstrip. The pile or vinyl weatherstripping has compressed over years of thermal cycling. Los Angeles gets enough heat that vinyl weatherstripping becomes brittle and loses its rebound in five to eight years.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, Oldcastle window and door part replacement typically runs from $470 to $2,950 installed. The low end covers a single balance, a roller set, or a lock replacement with labor. The high end covers a full insulated glass unit replacement on a large window or a sliding door with damaged track work and frame adjustment. The middle of the range, $900 to $1,800, is where most single-issue repairs land: a failed glass pane in a standard vinyl window, a full hardware replacement on a sliding door, or multiple balances across a set of windows.

Every quote is a flat written price with a written scope. You’ll know the part number, the cost of the part, the labor, and the warranty before you say yes. Under Clause 1 of our Haven Standard, the price is written before any work starts, and no change order proceeds without your signature. The workmanship warranty covers the installation for one year, and parts carry their manufacturer’s warranty. We hand you the documentation at the end, not a verbal promise.

The range exists because condition varies. A window with clean, square framing needs one thing. A window that’s been leaking into the rough opening for two winters needs another. We’ll show you both the quote and the why.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling: whether the lock keeper is tight, whether the track is clean on a slider, whether the window is square in its opening. Those observations help us quote faster. Beyond that, most Oldcastle part replacements involve either high-tension springs, sharp glass, or both. Window balances are under spring load and need to be handled with the sash removed and the correct technique. Insulated glass units are heavy, can shatter under pressure points, and require correct seating to avoid a future seal failure. Sliding doors can weigh 150 pounds or more.

We’re not saying you can’t do it. We’re saying we see the aftermath when it goes wrong, and the repair after a bad DIY attempt usually costs more than the original fix. If you’d rather skip the risk, call us at (470) 298-9650. We’ll tell you if it’s a $500 fix or a $2,000 fix before anyone schedules anything.
