Quikrete Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Quikrete driveway and paver work in Los Angeles typically runs between $4,130 and $21,240 installed, depending on whether you’re sealing a worn slab, replacing a cracked pour, or laying a full paver surface. We stock Quikrete-compatible materials on our trucks and can usually begin work within a week of the written estimate. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a problem the same way: a hairline crack that widens after a rain, a paver that’s sunk half an inch below its neighbors, or a slab edge that’s started to crumble into the gutter.
Here’s the thing about concrete and pavers in this city: the soil moves. Los Angeles sits on expansive clay that swells when it rains and shrinks when it dries, and over a decade that cycle quietly works against every flat surface you own. Add in summer temperatures that hit 100 degrees in the Valley and the occasional earthquake, and a Quikrete surface that looked perfect in 2019 can look tired by 2026. The good news is that most failures are repairable or replaceable with honest numbers behind them. That’s what this page is for.
Which Quikrete Models This Applies To
Quikrete isn’t one product line, it’s a family of concrete and paver products, and the part you need depends on which one you have. If your driveway was poured as a single monolithic slab, you’re dealing with standard Quikrete concrete mix, typically the 5000 PSI formulation for driveways in Los Angeles because it holds up better under vehicle weight and Southern California sun. If your driveway or patio is made of individual units, you’re looking at Quikrete pavers or Quikrete WalkMaker molds, which produce 12-inch and 16-inch concrete squares in patterns like the European Block and Cobblestone.
Here’s where Los Angeles homeowners hit a compatibility snag: Quikrete makes at least three different paver thicknesses, 2 inches, 2.5 inches, and 3 inches, and they are not interchangeable once installed. A 2-inch paver laid on a walkway cannot be swapped into a driveway that needs 3-inch units to handle car weight. Before you buy a single replacement paver, measure the thickness of an existing one you can lift from an edge. That measurement, plus the pattern name stamped on the underside if it’s still legible, is what we use to match. For OEM Quikrete products versus quality aftermarket equivalents: for slabs and overlays, we use Quikrete’s own mixes because the aggregate sizing and cure times are consistent. For pavers, we often source from Belgard and Techo-Bloc (two of the brands we stock across our paver work) when a Quikrete pattern has been discontinued or the color match isn’t close enough. Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Quikrete, and we’ll tell you plainly when an aftermarket paver matches better than the original.
Signs Your Quikrete Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

- Hairline cracks that run in a single line across the slab. This usually means the subgrade settled unevenly, not that the concrete itself failed. In Los Angeles, we see this most often where tree roots run under a driveway or where a downspout has been dumping water at one corner for years. The crack is a symptom; the drainage or root issue is the cause.
- One paver has sunk lower than the ones around it. That’s a base failure, almost always from water washing out the sand and gravel underneath. It happens most on sloped driveways in neighborhoods like Silver Lake and Echo Park, where runoff finds the path of least resistance under the pavers instead of over them.
- The surface has started to flake or scale in patches. This is spalling, and in Los Angeles it’s usually from the original pour being overworked with a trowel, or from de-icing salts if you’re up in the foothills where frost happens. A sealing job can stop it early; a resurface is the fix once it’s widespread.
- There’s a gap between the slab edge and the garage floor or the adjacent sidewalk. Concrete expands and contracts with temperature. Los Angeles swings from 45-degree winter nights to 110-degree summer afternoons, and a 20-foot slab can move a quarter inch across that range. When the gap appears suddenly, it usually means the slab has shifted and is no longer stable at its perimeter.
- Weeds are pushing up through paver joints in multiple spots. One or two weeds is maintenance. A lawn of them means the joint sand has washed out and the base underneath is being colonized. That’s a full relaying job, because once roots get into the base, releveling the surface doesn’t fix what’s underneath it.
Before
AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Quikrete driveway or paver project in Los Angeles, you’re looking at these installed ranges:
- Concrete driveway installation (new pour): $5,310 to $14,160
- Driveway replacement (remove and repour): $5,900 to $16,520
- Paver driveway installation: $8,260 to $21,240
- Paver patio installation: $4,130 to $12,980
- Driveway sealing (clean, repair, seal): $295 to $825
The spread comes down to square footage, access, and what we find underneath when we start. A driveway that sits flat on good gravel base is a straightforward number. A driveway where we have to remove 6 inches of cracked concrete, haul it out, recompact the subgrade, and pour new is a different job. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts, and it’s a flat price with a written scope. No work proceeds on a change until the change order is signed. That’s the discipline that’s kept our project costs within a few percent of the agreed number across 4,000-plus jobs since 2007. Your quote includes labor, materials, haul-off, and the documented photo record we take on every visit.
DIY or Call Us?

Some Quikrete work is genuinely doable on a Saturday. Sealing a driveway is within reach: clean the surface, apply the sealer, stay off it for 24 hours. Replacing a single patio paver is also reasonable if you can lift it out, relevel the base sand, and set a matching unit. What we’d caution against is any job that involves removing and repouring concrete, or releveling more than a few pavers. The mix has to be right for the weather on the day of the pour, the base has to be compacted in lifts, and once concrete is placed you don’t get a do-over. We’ve repaired more DIY driveway pours in Los Angeles than we can count. If you’re uncertain, call us at (470) 298-9650. We’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a Saturday job or a crew job, and if it’s the latter, we’ll put a written price in your hands before any work begins.
FAQs
A properly poured Quikrete concrete driveway lasts 25 to 30 years in Los Angeles, and Quikrete pavers last 40 years or more because individual units can shift and be reset without cracking. The lifespan depends more on the base underneath and the drainage around it than on the product itself. Call (470) 298-9650 for an exact assessment of your site.
Yes, if the crack is stable and the slab hasn’t settled, we can repair it with a polyurethane or epoxy injection and resurface the area to blend. If the crack has widened over time or one side has dropped, the base has failed and a sectional replacement is the honest fix. We’ll show you the difference during the estimate.
Sealing a driveway takes one day. Replacing a few pavers takes one day. A full concrete driveway replacement in Los Angeles runs 3 to 5 days including demolition, base work, pour, and cure time before you can drive on it. A paver driveway installation runs 2 to 4 days. Your written scope will include a schedule before we start.
We stock Quikrete concrete mixes and the most common paver profiles on our trucks, and we source specific colors and discontinued patterns from our distributor network within a few days. You don’t order anything and you don’t pay retail markup. The materials price in your quote is what we pay, plus installation labor, written out line by line.
