Abodu Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Abodu-compatible driveway and paver materials throughout Los Angeles, with installed paver driveway work typically running $8,260 to $21,240 depending on square footage, base condition, and paver style. Most owners discover a driveway or paver problem the same way: a paver sinks after heavy rain, a border row shifts and leaves a trip edge, or water pools against the ADU foundation after two winters. The fix is usually straightforward once someone puts eyes on the base layer, because pavers fail from the ground up, not the surface down.
Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Abodu. We work on the driveway and paver surfaces that serve Abodu units and the surrounding hardscape, and we carry Belgard and Techo-Bloc pavers on the truck for matching common Los Angeles installations.
Which Abodu Models This Applies To
Abodu units sit on foundations that are typically set back from the street, which means the driveway or walkway connecting the unit to the curb is installed by a local contractor after the unit is placed. The pavers themselves are not manufactured by Abodu and there is no Abodu-specific paver part number. What matters is the paver profile: most Los Angeles Abodu installations use a 60mm or 80mm interlocking concrete paver in a 4×8 or 6×9 format, and the border row is often a 6×6 or 6×9 in a contrasting color.
To identify what you have, flip one paver and check the underside for a manufacturer stamp. Belgard stamps a “B” or “Belgard” into the mold, Techo-Bloc stamps their name, and older Los Angeles installs often used Calstone or Pavestone, both of which still produce matching profiles. If the stamp is worn off, measure the paver: a true 4×8 measures 3-7/8 inches by 7-7/8 inches including the spacer nibs. A metric 100mm x 200mm paver measures slightly larger. That distinction matters when you are replacing a few units in the middle of a field, because mixing imperial and metric pavers leaves visible joint width differences.
The OEM versus aftermarket question is simpler here than with mechanical parts: pavers are commodity materials, and a quality aftermarket paver from Belgard, Techo-Bloc, or Calstone matches or exceeds what was originally installed. The failure is almost never the paver itself. It is the base underneath.
Signs Your Abodu Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

- Sunken paver field (birdbath effect). Water pools in a low spot after rain and stays for more than an hour. This means the compacted base below has settled or washed out, usually because the original install skimped on the 4-6 inches of Class II road base Los Angeles soil demands. The paver did not fail. The prep did.
- Shifting border row. Edge pavers drift outward and the gap at the curb or planter widens. The edge restraint (plastic or concrete) was not pinned properly, or it was never installed. Once the border moves, the field pavers follow.
- Paver cracking or chipping along the driving path. Vehicle weight on a paver over a void creates a stress point. The base has a soft spot beneath that specific paver, and the paver cracks before the base gives way visibly.
- Weed growth between joints every few weeks. Weeds do not grow through pavers. They grow through joint sand that has washed out or decomposed, which means the joints were never sealed with polymeric sand, or the original sand was swept into dry, dusty joints that never locked.
- Raised or heaved pavers near trees or planter beds. Roots push upward and lift the paver field from below. In Los Angeles, ficus and liquidambar roots are aggressive enough to move a 3-inch paver cap within a few years if a root barrier was not installed at the planter edge.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Abodu driveways and paver surfaces in Los Angeles, here are the installed price ranges we quote, based on the scope of the failure rather than the brand of the unit:
- Paver driveway installation (new or full replacement): $8,260-$21,240. Range depends on square footage, paver profile, base depth required, and access from the street. A two-car driveway in the 400-500 square foot range falls near the middle.
- Driveway replacement: $5,900-$16,520. This covers removing the failing surface and installing a new base and paver cap where the existing base is partially salvageable.
- Paver patio installation (walkway or small patio adjacent to the unit): $4,130-$12,980.
- Driveway sealing (joint re-sanding and sealing): $295-$825. This is maintenance, not repair, and it extends the life of a paver driveway by preventing base erosion through the joints.
- Concrete driveway installation (if you are switching surfaces): $5,310-$14,160.
Every quote is a flat written price with a written scope and a written warranty before any work starts, under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard. That means the price you agree to is the price you pay, and no change order proceeds without your signature. We include the base prep, paver material, edge restraint, polymeric sand, and a documented photo record of what we found under the old surface and what we installed. You walk away with evidence, not a handshake.
DIY or Call Us?

Replacing one cracked paver in the field is a Saturday job if you have a matching unit, a rubber mallet, and the patience to re-sand the joints. You can also safely check the obvious: look for pooling water after rain, walk the border row and note any movement, and pull a weed from a joint to see if the sand below is loose or gone. Those observations help us quote accurately before we arrive.
Where DIY goes wrong is underneath the surface. Lifting a sunken section of pavers, re-compacting the base, and reinstalling without a plate compactor leaves the same soft spot that caused the failure, just buried a little deeper. Pavers over a bad base are a timer, not a repair. If the failure is wider than a few units, or the base has clearly washed out, the honest answer is that the fix involves excavation, re-compaction, and a properly pinned edge, and that is not a weekend project. Call (470) 298-9650 and we will give you a written price before anything gets moved.
One more thing worth saying plainly: pavers are heavy. A single 60mm unit weighs 38-42 pounds, and a pallet is over 1,600 pounds. If you are moving more than a few units by hand, your lower back will know about it. Measure twice, say it once, show your work.
FAQs
A properly installed paver driveway in Los Angeles should last 25-30 years with joint re-sanding every 5-7 years, because we do not get freeze-thaw cycles that destroy pavers in colder climates. The failure we see most often in this market is base washout from irrigation overspray and poor drainage, not paver deterioration.
Yes, in most cases. If the base is intact and the settlement is localized, we lift the affected section, re-compact or add base material, reset the pavers, and re-sand the joints. If the base was never compacted properly, the repair scope grows because the same failure will recur an inch away. The photo record from our visit shows you exactly what we found.
Most Abodu driveway replacements in Los Angeles take 3-5 working days from demolition to final compaction, assuming no rain. The base layer needs to settle and compact in lifts, and skipping that dry time is the reason so many pavers fail in the first place.
Yes. We carry common Belgard and Techo-Bloc profiles in the truck for matching existing installations, and we can source Calstone, Pavestone, and other Los Angeles distributors within a day or two. We also stock joint sand and edge restraint as standard, and we reference the same sourcing depth we use for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone in our other trades.
Call (470) 298-9650 and we will put the price in writing before anyone picks up a tool. That is how we have done it since 2007, and it is how we do it on every Abodu driveway and paver job in Los Angeles.
