ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you have an ActiveYards driveway, gate, or paver-edge system that’s started to sag, bind, or pull away from its track, we stock the replacement parts and hardware for it. Typical ActiveYards driveway and gate component repair in Los Angeles runs $295-$1,475 installed, depending on the part and the damage. We carry the most common failure items on our trucks, which means we can usually diagnose and complete the fix in one visit. Most owners discover the problem when a gate post leans a few degrees, a paver edging strip pulls free after a heavy rain in the Valley, or the gate stops latching cleanly against the driveway column.

Which ActiveYards Models This Applies To

ActiveYards manufactures aluminum and steel fence and gate systems sold as modular components, not sealed units. That matters because the driveway gate post, hinge bracket, latch assembly, and the paver-anchoring hardware are all replaceable without swapping the entire gate. The most common Los Angeles installs we work on are the ActiveYards aluminum estate gates, often paired with paver driveways, and the edge hardware used where a driveway transitions to turf or planting beds. To identify your component, look for the white ActiveYards label on the inside face of the gate frame or the bottom rail. If the label is weathered off, measure the gate post diameter: ActiveYards aluminum posts run 2″ to 2.5″ square, while the steel line runs 2.375″ round. That one measurement usually narrows the series.

One ActiveYards-specific gotcha: the hinge brackets on the aluminum gate line are machined for their proprietary post profile, so a generic Home Depot bracket will not seat correctly. We source OEM ActiveYards brackets and, where a compatible aftermarket part genuinely matches the profile, we’ll quote both and tell you which we’d put on our own gate. Rowan Construction Group is an independent Los Angeles contractor; we are not affiliated with ActiveYards, but we work on their systems weekly.

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your ActiveYards Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Gate post leaning 5 degrees or more. In Los Angeles, this is almost always a footing issue, not a post failure. Clay-heavy soil expands and contracts with our wet winters and dry summers, and a footing poured too shallow (under 18″ deep) shifts. The post needs to be re-set in a deeper footing with proper gravel drainage.
  • Gate binds or scrapes at the bottom corner on hot afternoons. Aluminum expands in heat, and a gate that was hung with no clearance gap in January will bind by August. The fix is a hinge adjustment or a shim, not a new gate.
  • Paver edging pulls away from the driveway after rain. ActiveYards edging is staked; when Los Angeles gets a real downpour (like the winters of 2023 and 2024), surface water saturates the soil and works the stakes loose. The proper repair is compacted base material and longer stakes, not just pushing it back and hoping.
  • Latch no longer catches or the gate swings past the column. The ActiveYards latch pin or the receiver plate has worn or shifted. When a gate falls out of square, the latch is the first casualty.
  • Hinge bracket cracks at the bolt holes. This is rare in the steel line but we see it in the aluminum estate gates, typically on heavier driveway spans where wind load over years in the San Fernando Valley has stressed the bracket. A cracked bracket should be replaced immediately; a gate swinging from one hinge is a safety hazard.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Parts-only pricing for ActiveYards components in Los Angeles typically runs $45-$220 for hinge brackets, latch assemblies, and post caps, depending on the series. Installed pricing for a single part replacement, such as a hinge bracket or latch swap, lands in the $295-$475 range. Re-setting a gate post with a proper footing runs $560-$900. A full paver edging repair along a two-car driveway runs $410-$1,475 depending on linear footage and whether we’re re-compacting base material or just re-staking. Every quote you get from us is a flat written price with a written scope, before any work starts. No change proceeds without a signed change order. That’s Clause 1 of our Haven Standard, and it’s the reason our projects have finished within a few percent of the agreed number across more than 4,000 jobs since 2007.

Every ActiveYards repair includes a documented photo record of what we found and what we did. It’s not an add-on; it’s standard on every visit.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling anyone. Look at the gate post from a few feet back and see if it’s out of plumb. Open and close the gate slowly and listen for metal-on-metal scraping. Check whether the latch pin still seats in the receiver. Those observations will help you describe the problem when you call. What we recommend against: unbolting a hinge bracket on a gate that’s under load. A driveway gate on a slope in the Hollywood Hills or Brentwood carries significant weight, and when the wrong bolt comes out first, the gate can drop or swing hard. That’s a fast trip to the emergency room and a broken gate. If the post is leaning, the footing and the gate both need to be addressed; partial fixes fail again within a season.
