Atlas Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Atlas-compatible driveway and paver components across Los Angeles, with typical installed replacement work running $295 to $21,240 depending on whether you’re sealing an existing surface or replacing a full paver driveway. Most paver repairs we handle are completed in one day once materials are on site. The way owners usually discover a problem is visual: a paver that’s settled an inch below its neighbors, a crack running through three or four stones in a row, or a section of driveway that puddles water after rain. In Los Angeles, where we get intense UV exposure and seasonal ground movement, Atlas pavers can shift on their sand bed long before they actually break.

Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Atlas. We work with Atlas products because they’re common in Los Angeles driveways and patios, and because we can pull spec sheets on their paver lines going back years.

Which Atlas Models This Applies To

Atlas pavers in Los Angeles split into two broad compatibility groups. The first is the Atlas Stone series, which covers the 60mm and 80mm interlocking concrete pavers we see most often in residential driveways across neighborhoods like Hancock Park, Silver Lake, and the Valley. The second is the Atlas Slate line, which is a thinner paver, usually 40mm to 50mm, and is more common on patios and walkways than on vehicle surfaces.

The compatibility gotcha owners hit most often is thickness. A paver rated for pedestrian load will fail under a car within two or three Los Angeles seasons. If your driveway takes a daily SUV or truck, you want the 80mm Atlas Stone, not the 60mm, even though the thinner paver saves a few dollars per square foot up front. We’ve measured existing pavers on site with a caliper enough times to know that a lot of Los Angeles driveways were built with the wrong thickness from the start.

For OEM versus aftermarket: Atlas pavers are manufactured to a specific modular size, and aftermarket equivalents that are within 1/16 inch visually still misalign over a large field. We install genuine Atlas when we can source it. When a line is discontinued, we will tell you that before we write the quote, and we’ll show you the closest aftermarket match with its actual dimensions, not a promise that it will be “close enough.”

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

Signs Your Atlas Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
  • Settling or sinking pavers. A paver that sits lower than its neighbors means the sand bed or base rock underneath has eroded or compacted unevenly. In Los Angeles, this often traces back to how the base was compacted at original installation.
  • Water pooling after rain. Driveways should slope away from the house. If water stands for more than an hour after rain stops, the base has shifted and the slope is gone. Standing water accelerates base erosion, which makes the problem worse every winter.
  • Spalling or flaking paver surfaces. The top layer of the paver starts flaking away, usually from freeze-thaw cycles or from salt exposure. Los Angeles doesn’t freeze much, but coastal moisture plus de-icing salts does similar damage to pavers over time.
  • Cracked or broken pavers, especially near the edges. A single cracked paver is often a concentrated load problem, like a garbage truck running the corner. Multiple cracks in a line suggest the base settled unevenly and the pavers are now bearing vehicle weight directly instead of spreading it.
  • Weeds or moss pushing through joints. The joint sand between pavers is the lock that holds the whole field together. When you see weeds through the joints, that sand has washed out or blown away, and the pavers are now shifting independently.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Los Angeles, Atlas paver work prices out like this:

  • Driveway sealing: $295-$825
  • Paver patio installation: $4,130-$12,980
  • Concrete driveway installation: $5,310-$14,160
  • Driveway replacement: $5,900-$16,520
  • Paver driveway installation: $8,260-$21,240

What drives the range is square footage first, then base condition. If your existing base is compacted and graded correctly, repair cost stays low. If we find the base was never built right, the quote reflects excavation and re-compaction, because laying pavers on a bad base means doing the job twice. Every quote we write in Los Angeles is a flat price with a written scope of work. Parts and labor are itemized. If a base turns out worse than expected once we open it up, you’ll get a signed change order before any additional work proceeds. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check the condition of your paver driveway yourself. Walk the field and note which pavers sound hollow when you tap them with a rubber mallet. Check whether joint sand is present between pavers or missing. Measure any visible slope with a level. None of that requires tools or training.

Where DIY goes wrong on Atlas paver work in Los Angeles is resetting pavers on a failed base. Pulling up a cracked paver and putting down new sand is easy. The problem is the base underneath, which you can’t see until you open it up. Every homeowner we’ve met who reset their own pavers twice in two years had the same issue: the pavers were fine, the base was not. If you’ve already reset pavers once and they failed again, that’s the base trying to tell you something. Call us at (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you what we find, with a written price before any work starts.
