Belgard Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Belgard-spec bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, and we carry the Belgard-compatible tile, paver, and surface materials on the truck so most jobs don’t wait on a parts order. The failure you’re seeing usually announces itself the same way: a cracked floor tile in front of the shower, grout that won’t stay sealed no matter how many times you reapply, or a drain that sits proud of the floor because the substrate under the Belgard material finally gave way. We’re an independent contractor, not affiliated with Belgard, which means we match the material honestly and charge one written price for the fix, not a brand premium.

In Los Angeles, the sun and the soil both work against a bathroom floor. Belgard pavers and tile are dense, but the slab beneath them expands and contracts with the temperature swings between summer afternoons and winter mornings. When the underlayment fails, the Belgard surface fails with it. You’ll feel it before you see it: a tile that rocks slightly underfoot, a hollow sound when you tap, water that pools where it used to drain.

Which Belgard Models This Applies To

When a Los Angeles homeowner calls us about Belgard in a bathroom, the product is almost always one of two things: Belgard porcelain pavers used as a floor surface, or Belgard wall block repurposed as a bathroom feature wall or shower surround. The porcelain paver line comes in 2 cm and 3 cm thicknesses, and that number matters more than the color when you’re matching a replacement. A 2 cm paver set over a mortar bed will not interchange with a 3 cm paver set on pedestals without reworking the entire floor elevation. That’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss.

To identify what you have, look at the underside of a loose tile or the end grain of a wall block. Belgard stamps its pavers with a series code, and the dimensions will tell you the rest: 24″ x 24″ porcelain pavers are the most common bathroom floor format in Los Angeles remodels from the last decade. If you can’t read the stamp, photograph the tile face, the underside, and a cross-section if one is chipped, and we’ll match it from our supplier network. For aftermarket equivalents, we spec the same mill thickness and rectified edges Belgard uses, but we never substitute without showing you the spec sheet first. The OEM material is still available for most active Belgard lines; discontinued colors usually have a close aftermarket match.

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Belgard Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Here’s what a failing Belgard bathroom installation looks like in Los Angeles, in the order we usually find them:

  • Rocking or hollow-sounding floor tiles. The thin-set bond between the paver and the substrate has broken, usually because the slab shifted or the original installer skipped crack-isolation membrane. In Los Angeles, slab movement is a when, not an if.
  • Grout that cracks along the same lines every month. That’s the tile telling you the floor is moving in a specific direction. Re-grouting won’t fix it; the movement has to be addressed at the substrate level.
  • Water pooling or a drain that sits high. When the substrate settles and the drain doesn’t move with it, water can’t reach the outlet. You’re looking at a floor re-slope, not a quick patch.
  • Hairline cracks running through the paver face itself. Porcelain is hard, but it’s brittle when the bed below flexes. A single crack that runs from edge to edge usually means the paver is bearing weight in a spot it wasn’t meant to.
  • Efflorescence or darkened grout lines that never dry. Water is trapped under the surface, which means the waterproofing layer has failed. In a shower, this is the one that always precedes the expensive repair.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Bathroom remodeling with Belgard materials in Los Angeles runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed. The range comes down to three things: how much Belgard surface area we’re replacing, whether the waterproofing membrane underneath is still intact, and whether the slab needs re-sloping. A full bathroom with a Belgard paver floor and wall block in the shower is the top of that range. A floor-only replacement in a guest bath is the bottom.

Every quote we write includes the material, demolition, substrate prep, installation, and haul-away as line items. No allowances, no vague “installed price per square foot” that balloons later. If we find subfloor damage after demo, the change order is signed before we proceed, not after the fact. That’s Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, and it’s why our final invoices across 4,000-plus projects have landed within a few percent of the written quote. Workmanship warranty is one year, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if it’s not right, we make it right.

What you can safely do as an owner: identify which Belgard product you have, photograph the damage, and clear the room so we can inspect. That saves us a trip and saves you money on the written quote. What you should not attempt: pulling up Belgard pavers to “see what’s underneath.” Once you break the bond on one paver, you’ve changed the load distribution on the ones around it, and you’ll almost certainly find the waterproofing membrane is fused to the tile. If that membrane tears, water damage becomes a structural problem instead of a cosmetic one.

Tile demolition in a Los Angeles bathroom is not the same as pulling up a patio paver. The dust is silica, the membrane is bonded to your slab, and the wrong hammer blow cracks the slab itself. We send background-checked, uniformed technicians with the right equipment and a documented photo record on every visit, so you know exactly what was found and what was done.
