Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Boxabl kitchen remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on whether you’re refreshing a failing cabinet run or gutting the galley down to the wall assembly. We stock Boxabl-compatible cabinet hardware, countertop slabs cut to the Casita’s 9-foot-6-inch interior width, and plumbing fixtures sized for the unit’s PEX manifold, and we can usually start within two weeks of the written quote. Most owners don’t call us because they want a prettier kitchen. They call because a cabinet face has delaminated from the LA humidity cycle, a sink flange has been weeping into the cabinetry, or the factory particleboard substrate has started swelling around the dishwasher opening.

This page is the resource I’d want if I owned a Boxabl in Los Angeles and needed straight answers about what fails, what it costs to fix, and whether the job is worth doing at all. We’re an independent contractor, not a Boxabl dealer or affiliate. That means we match parts and materials to the unit rather than defending the factory spec when a better material exists.

Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

The Boxabl Casita ships as a single 20-by-19-foot module with a fixed kitchen footprint along the short wall, opposite the bathroom core. Every Casita run to date uses the same 8-foot linear cabinet layout: a 30-inch sink base, an 18-inch drawer stack, a 24-inch range opening, and a corner upper run that terminates at the refrigerator alcove. If your unit was delivered before 2023, the cabinet boxes are 5/8-inch particleboard with a thermofoil face. Post-2023 units moved to a plywood box with a painted MDF door, which is meaningfully better in Los Angeles County’s dry-summer/wet-winter swing.

The compatibility gotcha is the wall attachment system. Boxabl cabinets hang on a steel hat-channel grid that’s welded to the module frame, not screwed to conventional studs at 16 inches on center. That means standard big-box cabinet hanging rails don’t line up. You either need Boxabl’s proprietary cleat hangers, which we keep in stock, or we fabricate an adapter plate. The countertop is a 25.5-inch depth rather than the standard 25 inches, and the factory sink is an undermount 22-by-16 with a 3.5-inch drain collar. When you replace a countertop, you’re also committing to a sink and faucet swap unless the old ones are in new condition. We spec KraftMaid or Wellborn cabinets as aftermarket upgrades, and Cambria or Silestone for quartz when the factory laminate has given up.

Signs Your Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Thermofoil peeling at the drawer edges and door bottoms. This is the most common failure we see in Los Angeles, because heat near the range and humidity from the sink accelerate the adhesive breakdown. Once it starts, the whole door needs replacement; touch-up kits look worse than the damage.
  • Softening floor in front of the sink base. The factory sink flange uses a thin foam gasket that compresses over time, especially in units that move between the high desert and the coast. Water seeps under the cabinet and into the vinyl plank. By the time you feel a soft spot, the subfloor needs a section cut out.
  • Drawer glides binding or racking. The factory glides are a lightweight European undermount rated at 75 pounds. Owners in LA who actually cook - cast iron, small appliances, pantry overflow - overload them within two or three years. The drawer front starts hitting the frame on the left or right side.
  • Cabinet doors not staying closed. The factory hinges are a 110-degree clip-on with a soft-close piston that loses tension. When three or more doors swing open on their own, it’s not an adjustment issue; the hinge bodies are done.
  • Black staining along the backsplash caulk line. That’s mold working through a failed silicone joint. LA’s coastal fog zones - Venice, Playa del Rey, El Segundo - get this faster than inland. The caulk is cosmetic, but the moisture behind it is already into the wall panel.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

The installed range for a Boxabl kitchen remodel in Los Angeles is $16,520 to $53,100. Where you land depends on scope. A cabinet-and-countertop refresh with mid-grade materials runs $18,000 to $28,000. A full gut to the module frame - new cabinets, quartz counters, tile backsplash, sink, faucet, under-cabinet lighting, and flooring - starts around $35,000 and can reach $53,100 if you choose Cambria slabs and Kohler fixtures.

Here’s the line-item picture:

  • Cabinet installation (Boxabl-compatible): $4,720-$15,340
  • Countertop installation (quartz or solid surface): $2,360-$7,670
  • Backsplash installation (tile, including membrane): $945-$2,950
  • Kitchen island installation (if adding one): $3,540-$11,800
  • Full kitchen remodel (this page’s range): $16,520-$53,100

Every quote is a written flat price with a written scope before anyone picks up a tool. No work proceeds on a change until the change order is signed - that’s the discipline that’s kept our projects within a few percent of the agreed number across more than 4,000 jobs. You get a documented photo record of every visit, and the work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it’s not done right, we make it right.

You can safely check a few things yourself: look for water staining under the sink base, test every drawer glide for side-to-side play, and note which doors don’t stay shut. That gives us a head start on the quote.

What you should not do is attempt a cabinet tear-out on a Boxabl. The cabinets are load-bearing for the countertop, and the wall attachment cleats are under tension from the module frame. Pulling a cabinet without releasing the cleat properly can warp the steel hat channel behind the drywall, and now you’re into a structural repair that costs three times the cabinet job. The same caution applies to the plumbing - the PEX manifold lives in the adjacent wall cavity, and one wrong cut floods the floor system in minutes. This is the point where a trained crew with the right tools and a signed scope beats a weekend and a YouTube tutorial. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll walk the unit with you.
