Cambridge Pavers Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
Cambridge Pavers driveway and paver repair in Los Angeles typically runs $826-$2,124 for targeted fixes like individual paver replacement, edge restraint repair, or spot re-leveling, while a full paver driveway installation on a standard two-car footprint lands between $8,260 and $21,240. We stock Cambridge-compatible units and matching joint sand on our trucks, so most single-visit repairs are done same day. Owners usually discover a problem the way you just did: a paver sinks after a rainstorm, an edge stone kicks loose against the curb, or a low spot forms where the car’s tires sit every night. That’s the failure pattern in Los Angeles, and it’s one we see weekly across neighborhoods from Mar Vista to Highland Park.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor. We service Cambridge Pavers products but we’re not affiliated with the manufacturer, and we’re upfront about that because it affects warranty questions. What that means for you: we match the paver unit, we source it honestly, and we write the price down before anyone lifts a stone.
Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To
Cambridge Pavers makes three paver families that dominate Los Angeles driveways and patios: the Ledgestone line (irregular, cleft-faced edges, sold in 3-piece modular bundles), the Holland Stone (rectangular, 4″ x 8″ nominal, the workhorse of LA driveways), and the RoundTable series (bullnose edge units used for steps, borders, and pool decks). Each family has different thickness specs: Ledgestone runs 60mm, Holland Stone runs 60mm or 80mm depending on whether it’s rated for vehicular traffic, and RoundTable caps run 50mm. The 80mm Holland Stone is what belongs under a driveway. The 60mm is a patio unit, and that distinction is the single most common mismatch we find in Los Angeles: a homeowner or a previous contractor installed 60mm units on a driveway, and the pavers crack under repeated vehicle load within 18 to 36 months.
To identify your unit, flip a loose paver. Cambridge stamps a two-letter code and a lot number on the underside. If the stamp is worn or absent, measure the thickness with a tape measure, not by eye. For aftermarket replacements, quality equivalents from Belgard or Angelus Pavers (both made in California) are dimensionally compatible with Holland Stone, but the color blend will not match a weathered Cambridge unit perfectly. For a single-unit swap, we always recommend OEM Cambridge to keep the color close. For a large section re-do, the math changes: a full re-install with a new Cambridge blend is often cheaper than piecing together 40 individual OEM units.
Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

- A single paver sits lower than its neighbors by more than 1/8 inch. This is almost always a base failure under that specific unit, not a paver defect. In Los Angeles, decomposed granite sub-base compacts unevenly under heavy clay soils that expand and contract with our wet-dry cycles. The fix requires pulling the unit, adding compacted base, and re-setting it, not just dumping sand on top.
- Edge pavers along the driveway border rock or tilt when you step on them. The edge restraint (usually plastic or aluminum) has failed or was never installed. Without a rigid edge, the entire field of pavers slowly migrates outward. We see this constantly on older Los Angeles hillside driveways where gravity works against the installation every single day.
- Joint sand washes out after every rain, leaving gaps you can fit a quarter into. Cambridge pavers rely on interlock plus joint sand to hold position. In Los Angeles, our short but intense winter rains flush polymeric sand out of uncleaned joints fast. Gaps wider than 1/8 inch accelerate the problem: every car tire pass pumps more sand out.
- Surface chipping or spalling on the paver face, especially near the garage apron. This is either a unit installed upside down or a 60mm patio paver doing driveway duty. Cambridge units have a texture face and a smooth face; the texture face goes up. Installed smooth-side-up, the surface wears fast under tires.
- Water pools in a low spot for more than 48 hours after rain. Pavers themselves don’t fail this way; the base underneath settled. In Los Angeles, that’s usually a drainage issue or an uncompacted trench from an old utility line. Standing water on pavers accelerates efflorescence (white mineral staining) and eventually undermines the sand bed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Los Angeles homeowners, here’s what we quote in writing before work starts:
- Single paver replacement (1-5 units): $826-$2,124 installed, including matching the Cambridge unit, base repair under each paver, and re-sanding the surrounding joints. You’re paying mostly for the diagnosis and the base correction, not the paver itself, which is honest math.
- Section-level repair (10-40 units, base rebuild underneath): $2,124-$5,310 installed. This covers the area around a cracked edge, a sunken parking zone, or a tree-root bulge. Includes excavation of the failed base, new compacted road base, fabric, and re-installation.
- Full paver driveway installation (standard two-car, Cambridge Holland Stone 80mm): $8,260-$21,240. The spread is wide because Los Angeles driveways vary enormously: flat Rancho Park lots need less base work than a Silver Lake hillside with 18 inches of fill and a retaining wall.
Every quote includes the paver units, base material, edge restraint, polymeric joint sand, haul-away of the old material, and a written workmanship warranty. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that price is written before anyone starts, and it does not move unless you sign a change order. We don’t do open-ended estimates.
DIY or Call Us?

Replacing pavers is not a high-tension-spring situation; you won’t get hurt lifting a stone, and if you have a single loose paver and a bag of joint sand, you can do a temporary reset yourself. What you can check safely: is the paver rocking (base issue) or just sitting low (sand issue)? Is the edge restraint visible and intact? Is the paver 80mm or 60mm thick? That last measurement tells you whether your driveway was built wrong from the start. What goes wrong with DIY: homeowners pull a paver, find a cracked base or a tree root, pack in some sand, put the paver back, and it fails again in six weeks because the base was never fixed. If the paver sinks more than a quarter inch or you see mud pumping up through the joints after rain, the base is compromised and sand is not the answer. For that, call us at (470) 298-9650 and we’ll diagnose it properly on site.
FAQs
An 80mm Holland Stone driveway installed on a properly compacted base in Los Angeles lasts 25-40 years with occasional re-sanding. The pavers themselves are colored through the full body of the unit, so they don’t fade like dyed concrete. What fails first in LA is the base underneath, not the paver, which is why we spend more time on compaction than on laying stone. If your pavers are failing at year 5, the base or the unit thickness was wrong from the start. Call (470) 298-9650 for an on-site assessment and a written repair price.
A cracked Cambridge paver cannot be repaired; it gets replaced. Cambridge units are through-body colored, so a hairline crack won’t show color loss the way concrete does, but any crack wider than a dime’s thickness will keep spreading under vehicle load. We usually replace the cracked unit with an OEM Cambridge match and build the base back up underneath it so the replacement doesn’t crack in the same way. For a quote on single-unit or section replacement, call (470) 298-9650.
A single-paver or small-section repair (up to 10 units) is typically done in one visit, usually 2 to 4 hours. A 40-unit section with base rebuild takes one full day. A complete driveway replacement takes 3 to 5 days, including demo, base compaction, installation, and final sanding. We’ll give you the exact timeline in writing when we quote the job. We stock the most common Los Angeles Cambridge units (Holland Stone in the standard color blends, Ledgestone 3-piece bundles, and RoundTable bullnose caps) on our trucks for same-day replacement. For less common colors or larger quantities, we source OEM Cambridge units from our Los Angeles supplier network within 2-3 business days. We’ll match the unit, not just the color family, and we’ll show you the match before we install it. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you what’s in stock for your specific paver.
