Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Home additions and ADU projects built around Cambridge Pavers hardscape elements in Los Angeles typically run $53,100-$153,400, depending on whether you’re expanding living space, adding an ADU with paver access paths, or rebuilding a patio that failed. Most Los Angeles owners don’t call because the pavers themselves failed, though. They call because the support system under and around the pavers shifted: a retaining edge pushed out, a sand bed washed away after two El Niño winters, or a concrete sub-base cracked and the pavers above it now rock underfoot. The pavers are usually fine. The ground beneath them isn’t.

We stock Cambridge Pavers-compatible replacements and the geotextile, bedding sand, edge restraints, and base aggregate that go with them. What we install more often, though, is the structural correction: re-grading, re-compacting, and re-setting the Cambridge product so it stays flat and drains properly for another fifteen to twenty years. Written price before we start, and the photo record of what we found underneath goes to you the same day.

Which Cambridge Pavers Models This Applies To

Cambridge Pavers manufactures three product families that show up repeatedly in Los Angeles home additions and ADU projects: Ledgestone (tumbled, irregular edges; common around ADU entry paths), RoundTable (the large-format modular slab, often used for patio paving in addition builds), and the Pavingstones with ArmorTec finish (which resists fading and is what we recommend when a Los Angeles homeowner building an ADU wants pavers that won’t dull to chalk under direct sun). Since 2020, Cambridge has shifted more of its California stock toward the ArmorTec line, so if your pavers are matte and look “dry” no matter what sealant is applied, there’s a good chance they’re pre-2020 non-ArmorTec and that’s just the surface aging.

One compatibility gotcha: Cambridge paver dimensions are not interchangeable across product lines. A RoundTable slab is 16″ x 24″ or 24″ x 24″. A Ledgestone standard unit is 6″ x 9″ with a tumbled face. If you try to patch a RoundTable patio with Ledgestone units, the joint lines won’t align and the texture mismatch announces the repair from the driveway. We match product line, color family, and production batch as closely as current inventory allows. Cambridge’s own color names (Onyx, Sierra, Sandalwood) help, but two batches of “Sierra” produced three years apart will differ slightly, and we’ll tell you that before you pay for patch work that will always show a seam.

Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor serving Los Angeles and nearby areas. We’re not affiliated with Cambridge Pavers, which matters for one reason: we replace Cambridge products honestly, with either OEM-verified stock or code-compliant aftermarket equivalents, and our written quote says which it will be.

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU Is Failing

Signs Your Cambridge Pavers Home Additions & ADU Is Failing
  • Pavers rock or wobble underfoot. Usually bedding sand loss from below-grade water running through the joints, or a base that was never compacted to 95% modified Proctor density (the spec we hold our crews to on every paver set). The paver isn’t broken; the support has failed.
  • Edges are creeping outward. On a Los Angeles addition with paver walkways, missing or undersized edge restraint lets the outside paver courses migrate half an inch a year until the pattern visibly fans. Cambridge paver installations fail from the edges inward.
  • Low spots hold water for more than 48 hours. That points to a grade that was pitched wrong when the addition or ADU was built, or base settlement from a previous owner’s irrigation. Either way, standing water on Cambridge product eventually grows algae, and in Los Angeles’s clay-rich soils it accelerates settlement.
  • Joint sand is gone and weeds are coming through every few weeks. Polymeric sand failed or was never used. Once the jointing is gone, water gets under the pavers, wind dries out the bed, and the cycle repeats until parts of the field drop.
  • Cracks across multiple pavers in a single line. That’s not a product failure. It’s a structural crack telegraphing up from a failing concrete slab underneath, which is exactly what we see on Los Angeles ADU projects where the original slab was poured without a control joint pattern.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Cambridge Pavers home addition and ADU work in Los Angeles, you’re looking at $53,100-$153,400 installed. The spread comes down to what’s actually failing. Re-setting a 400-square-foot Cambridge patio that’s rocking but salvageable runs toward the low end of the range. A full ADU build with paver access, retaining walls, and new drainage pushes toward six figures because you’re not just replacing pavers; you’re constructing living space and the hardscape that makes it usable.

What’s included in any Rowan number: demolition and disposal of failed base material, new compacted aggregate base verified by field density testing (not a sight check), geotextile separation fabric, bedding sand, the Cambridge product or aftermarket equivalent spec’d in writing, edge restraint, polymeric jointing, and finish grading. One flat written price, no change orders unless you ask for a change, and under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard the price is in writing before anyone swings a pick. The workmanship warranty is written, not verbal.

You can diag can diagnose a lot of this from a lawn chair: walk the field and mark every paver that rocks, circle every low spot with landscape paint, and note where water stands after a rain. That gives us a map before we even show up. What you shouldn’t do is start pulling pavers in a pattern around a door or along a structural wall, because once the jointing goes on a Cambridge field, the whole set loosens, and re-setting a paver field is not a weekend project. It’s compaction, moisture conditioning, and lift thickness control, and if any of those three are done wrong, you get the same failure again in two winters.

If the concern is a structural slab, do not jack it up or patch it yourself. Slab lift and replacement with a structural engineer’s stamp is not a homeowner repair. Call (470) 298-9650, and we’ll send someone who will tell you honestly whether the paver failure is cosmetic or structural.
