CertainTeed Fence Installation: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
A full CertainTeed fence installation in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $10,620, depending on linear footage, terrain, and whether we’re pulling old posts or setting new ones. Most owners call us after a wind event or a soft post tells them the fence has reached its load limit. What they’re usually looking at is a combination of post failure, rail sag, or picket separation that has moved past the point where a single picket replacement makes sense. The right move is usually a complete re-install using the existing CertainTeed boards where they’re still sound, and new structural members where they aren’t.
We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with CertainTeed. That matters because we have no incentive to sell you a brand-new material package when half your existing boards still have useful life. Our crews install CertainTeed fence materials regularly, and we know which components fail first in this climate and which ones hold up.
Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To
CertainTeed’s fence line includes the Bufftech series (their vinyl and composite privacy, semi-privacy, and picket styles) and the EverNew series. The compatibility distinction matters: Bufftech panels use a routed post-and-rail system with tongue-and-groove board interlock, while EverNew panels sit in U-channels that allow more lateral movement. If you’re mixing series on a repair, the panel-to-post connection will not seat correctly and you’ll get gaps within a season. That’s the kind of compatibility gotcha we flag on the walkthrough, because it looks fine on paper and fails in practice.
To identify your CertainTeed series, check the top rail underside or the inside face of a post for an embossed brand mark. Bufftech posts carry a distinctive round-over profile and the boards have a consistent double-wall thickness that reads differently than big-box vinyl. Aftermarket rails and posts exist for both series, and for CertainTeed specifically we’ll typically quote an OEM-equivalent aftermarket when the original rail profile is still current. When it’s an older profile that CertainTeed discontinued, we tell you before you spend money.
Signs Your CertainTeed Fence Installation Is Failing

- Posts leaning more than 5 degrees: In Los Angeles, this is almost always a concrete-footer issue. The original installer either set posts in undersized footings or backfilled with native soil instead of concrete. Once a post starts leaning, it only accelerates, because the panels above lever against the post top.
- Rail separation at the post pocket: CertanTeed rails are designed to float slightly in the post pocket for thermal expansion. When you see a rail popped free entirely, the post spacing was likely cut too wide for the panel span, or the original install didn’t account for the expansion rate of vinyl in Southern California sun.
- Pickets cracking at the rail notch: This is a fatigue failure. The notch is the thinnest point on a vinyl picket, and over years of thermal cycling plus wind load, micro-fractures start there. Once two or three adjacent pickets crack, the panel loses its wind resistance and starts working against the rails.
- Gate no longer latches or scrapes the ground: The gate frame has racked, which is either a hinge-post issue or a sagging top rail. On vinyl fences, the gate is the first component to fail, simply because it’s the only moving part.
- White chalk residue on your hands after touching the boards: That’s UV degradation starting on the board surface. Southern California sun exposure is hard on vinyl; CertainTeed’s capstock formulation is better than most, but nothing lasts forever under 300-plus sunny days a year.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a typical Los Angeles residential lot with 150 to 180 linear feet of fence, we price CertainTeed re-installation between $4,130 and $10,620. The floor of that range assumes level terrain, reasonable access, and existing posts we can reuse after re-setting in fresh concrete. The ceiling assumes slope, retaining wall interfaces, rotted post removal, and replacing failed structural rails with new CertainTeed-compatible profiles.
The written quote itemizes materials and labor separately. You’ll see the per-linear-foot cost of rails, posts, and pickets, along with concrete, hardware, and our crew time. That transparency is the whole point, under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts. Every installation includes a documented photo record of the job, the written scope, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
DIY or Call Us?

Replacing a single vinyl picket? You can do that with a rubber mallet and a little patience. Re-setting a leaning post? You could dig it out, but here’s the thing: if one post has failed, its neighbors are usually heading the same direction, and the way you discover that is mid-job, with the fence half apart and a hole that’s now two feet deeper than you planned. Grant Rowan has been doing this long enough to know that the expensive part of fence work isn’t the vinyl. It’s the time spent recovering from a failed corner cut.
If you’re not certain whether you’re looking at a weekend fix or a full structural replacement, call us at (470) 298-9650 and we’ll walk the fence with you. The estimate is free, and it’s in writing before any tool gets pulled out of the truck.
FAQs
In Los Angeles, a properly installed CertainTeed Bufftech fence should hold its structure for 20 to 25 years, with surface UV wear becoming visible at the 10- to 12-year mark. The variable is almost always installation quality, not the vinyl. Posts set too shallow, or with too little concrete, will fail years before the boards do. If your fence is less than eight years old and already leaning, the original install is the likely culprit. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you honestly if it’s worth saving.
Yes, if the failure is limited to a few pickets or one post in a corner. We re-set posts in new concrete and swap cracked pickets with compatible CertainTeed profiles on a repair basis. If more than a third of your posts are leaning, or the rails have pulled out of multiple post pockets, you’re past the repair point and into re-installation territory. Our written estimate will show you the math on both options so you can decide without pressure.
For a standard 150- to 180-linear-foot Los Angeles yard, our crews typically complete a full CertainTeed re-install in two to three working days. That includes pulling old posts, digging and setting new footings, panel assembly, and gate re-hanging. Concrete needs 24 to 48 hours to cure before we tension rails and final-align gates, which is why we sequence the work the way we do. You’ll have the schedule written in the quote before we start.
We stock the most common CertainTeed-compatible profiles on our trucks, including Bufftech rails, routed posts, and gate hardware. For non-stock colors or discontinued profiles, we order through our supplier network, which includes the same brands we carry across our other trades, KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the interiors side. The lead time on non-stock vinyl is usually three to five business days in the Los Angeles market.
