CWS Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

For a full CWS bathroom remodel in Los Angeles, expect to pay between $10,620 and $33,040 with parts, labor, permits, and a written warranty included in the price before the first day of demo. That’s the range you should screenshot and compare against any other quote. If you’re reading this because a specific part has failed - a CWS valve cartridge, a shower door that’s jumped its track, a vanity drawer slide that’s given up - we can usually replace the part or scope the fuller remodel within the same visit, with the part identified and the price in writing before we begin.

Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a CWS component has failed the same way: the shower temperature wanders on its own, the cabinet door won’t stay closed, or the finish on a faucet has started to pit from the mineral content in our water. The part was never the cheap part in the first place. The question is whether the failure is isolated or a sign the whole installation is reaching the end of its useful life. Here’s how to tell the difference and what each path costs.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS (California Water Systems, not to be confused with the big-box vanity lines) built its Los Angeles reputation on mid-range to upper-mid bathroom fixtures and modular bath systems. The product lines you’ll see most often in LA homes built between the late 1990s and the mid-2010s include the CWS Signature Series, the CWS Modera line, and the CWS Pro-Fit modular bath system. Each has its own compatibility quirks, and the wrong part can cost you an extra visit.

The key compatibility gotcha: CWS Signature Series valves use a 5/8″ stem with a unique cartridge seat depth, while Modera valves run a 1/2″ stem with a shallower seat. If you pull a Modera cartridge and drop in a Signature unit, the handle will bind and the temperature range will be off by about fifteen degrees at the hot end. Look for the model tag on the valve body behind the escutcheon plate, or check the cross-hatch pattern on the cartridge itself - Signature cartridges have three o-rings, Modera cartridges have two. We stock both on the truck, along with genuine CWS brand parts and the higher-spec aftermarket equivalents (we generally recommend the aftermarket ceramic-disc upgrade for Signature valves; it outlasts the factory cartridge by roughly three to one in Los Angeles water conditions).

We are an independent Los Angeles service provider and are not affiliated with CWS. We stock CWS-compatible parts because they’re common in LA homes, not because we’re a factory rep. When you call, have the model number if you can. If you can’t find it, a photo of the fixture from three feet away is enough for us to identify it most of the time.

Signs Your CWS Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your CWS Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Temperature that wanders while other fixtures stay steady. This is the classic CWS pressure-balancing cartridge beginning to stick. The internal balancing spool gets calcified from Los Angeles hard water, and the shower can’t hold a consistent mix anymore. The fix is usually a cartridge replacement, not a full remodel.
  • Mineral staining that won’t come off, especially around the valve trim and drain collar. This points to finish failure. Once the PVD or chrome layer is compromised, the calcium bonds to the base metal. No amount of CLR will fix it, and the part needs replacement.
  • Shower door dragging or popping off the track. The CWS Modera line used a single-roller system on the bottom track, and those rollers wear unevenly. A dragging door is a warning sign; a door on the floor is a reminder to fix it before the glass chips.
  • Vanity drawers that bind, sag, or won’t stay on their slides. CWS vanities from the Signature line used a bayonet-style drawer clip that’s notorious for snapping after about ten years of use. The face is fine; the hardware isn’t. We replace the glide clips as a paired set so both sides wear evenly.
  • Slow drain with no visible clog. This often means the CWS pop-up assembly is the culprit - the plastic actuator arm flexes over time and doesn’t lift the stopper fully anymore. It’s a ten-dollar part in some models, and a two-hour repair, but it makes the tub feel like a plumbing emergency.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s how the numbers break down in Los Angeles for CWS-specific bathroom remodeling work:

  • Single-part replacement (cartridge, drain assembly, drawer glide, roller kit): $145-$410 installed, including the part. We don’t charge travel separately within LA County.
  • Fixture-level work (new CWS-compatible faucet, shower trim kit, vanity top): $945-$3,540 depending on the finish level and what’s accessible behind the wall.
  • Walk-in shower replacement with CWS-compatible components: $5,310-$14,160, including waterproofing membrane, grout, and new valve.
  • Full CWS bathroom remodel (the number at the top of this page): $10,620-$33,040. The spread isn’t a mystery. At the low end, you’re reusing the existing plumbing locations, keeping the same footprint, and choosing mid-range finishes. At the high end, we’re moving drain lines, replacing the subfloor, waterproofing a steam shower, and installing custom glass.

Every one of these prices is in writing before you sign anything. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the price is delivered and agreed to before any work starts. No change proceeds without a signed change order. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise - if it isn’t done right, we make it right - and the warranty document is part of your closeout packet, not a verbal promise.

For a cartridge swap on a CWS valve, if you’re comfortable shutting off the water at the fixture stops and you have the right trim tools, it’s a one-hour Saturday job. The risk isn’t plumbing; it’s the temperature limiter on reassembly. If you set it wrong, the water comes out lukewarm or scalding, and then you’re shopping for the little plastic stop anyway. For anything involving the valve body, the drain assembly below the flange, or shower-door rollers that require removing and re-hanging a piece of tempered glass, call a pro. Shower doors are under constant tension, and a chipped edge on tempered glass means the entire panel is compromised.

Measure twice, say it once, show your work. If you’d rather have us do the measuring, call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll send a background-checked tech who’ll identify the exact CWS part, give you a written price, and document the whole visit with photos before leaving.
