IKO Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
IKO driveway and paver components in Los Angeles typically run $590 to $2,950 for replacement parts and materials, with full paver driveway installation starting at $8,260 and ranging up to $21,240 depending on square footage and substrate condition. We stock IKO-compatible edge restraints, joint sand, and base materials on our trucks, and most part-level replacements can be quoted in writing the same day you call. The way owners usually find us: a paver has shifted, a section of the driveway has settled after winter rain, or the edge restraint has popped loose and the outside rows are starting to wander.
Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor, not an IKO dealer or affiliate. That matters because our recommendation is never tied to a brand quota. We match what your existing driveway actually needs.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO manufactures paver systems under their ArmorStone and StoneScape lines, along with polymeric sand products under the IKO ProSand name. The compatibility question most Los Angeles owners face is whether they have a concrete paver (thicker, typically 60mm to 80mm, used for driveways) or an architectural slab (thinner, 40mm to 50mm, meant for patios and walkways). If you put a 50mm patio paver in a driveway, it cracks under vehicle load. We see that mistake in older Los Angeles installs more than you’d expect, especially in neighborhoods like Eagle Rock and Silver Lake where homes changed hands and a previous owner cut corners.
To identify your IKO paver: flip one over. IKO stamps a batch code and dimension on the underside of most paver lines. The number you’re looking for is the thickness in millimeters, usually stamped as “60” or “80” on driveway-rated units. If the stamp has worn off, measure the paver edge with a tape measure. When we quote a repair or replacement, we record that measurement in the written scope so there’s no guesswork on install day.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: IKO’s own ProSand polymeric joint sand is a well-tested product, and we use it when the existing joints were filled with it. But for edge restraints and base material, there is no IKO-specific requirement. A quality aluminum or steel paver restraint from a supplier like Snap Edge or Pave Edge performs identically and often costs less. We’ll tell you which is which on the written quote, line by line.
Signs Your IKO Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

- Edge rows separating from the driveway. The paver restraint has failed or was never installed. Without a restraint, the outside rows drift outward under vehicle weight, and the gap grows a few millimeters a month. In Los Angeles, the wet-dry cycle after rain accelerates this.
- Sunken or depressed pavers in a tire track pattern. The base material under the pavers was too thin or poorly compacted. We typically find 2 to 3 inches of base where 4 to 6 inches was needed. The fix is lifting the affected area, re-compacting, and re-bedding.
- Joint sand washing out after rain. If you can see gaps between pavers and the sand level is visibly dropping after each storm, the polymeric sand has failed or was swept into joints that were wet. Re-sanding is straightforward, but the joints need to be bone-dry first. In Los Angeles, that means scheduling around the forecast.
- Pavers cracking in a straight line across the driveway. A crack that follows a line usually points to an issue under the pavers, like a utility trench that was never properly backfilled, or tree roots growing through the base. A single cracked paver is cosmetic; a line of cracked pavers is structural.
- Efflorescence, the white chalky film on paver surfaces. This is cosmetic and common in Los Angeles where irrigation water is mineral-heavy. It’s not a structural failure, but it often gets misdiagnosed. We can tell you in five minutes whether it’s efflorescence or a sealer failure.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For the Los Angeles market, here’s what we write on the quote:
- Paver re-bedding and re-leveling (small area, under 100 sq ft): $590-$1,180
- Edge restraint replacement (per linear foot, including materials): $8-$16 per foot
- Polymeric sand re-jointing (full driveway): $295-$825
- Full paver driveway replacement (including base, bedding, pavers, restraints, sand): $8,260-$21,240
- Paver patio replacement: $4,130-$12,980
The range is driven by square footage, access (a hillside driveway in Mt. Washington costs more to work on than a flat lot in Mid-City), and what we find when we lift the first pavers. That’s the honest part: until we see the base, we don’t know if it’s a re-bed or a full rebuild. The written quote locks the price either way. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to every paver repair and installation we complete. If the pavers shift or the sand fails within a year, we come back and fix it. No change order, no charge.
DIY or Call Us?

Re-sanding a small section of pavers is a reasonable DIY job if you’re patient and the weather cooperates. But lifting and re-bedding pavers is where we see DIY attempts go wrong. The two mistakes that cost owners the most: not compacting the base in lifts, and not using a plate compactor because renting one seemed like a hassle. Both failures show up within a year as sunken pavers. Paver work is not dangerous in the way a garage door spring is, but a cubic yard of base material is heavy, and the labor is slow. If you want to check something yourself before calling, inspect the edge restraint and the joint sand level. That tells us a lot on the phone. For anything beyond re-sanding, call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs
IKO concrete pavers typically last 25 to 40 years in Los Angeles when installed on a properly compacted base. The pavers themselves rarely wear out; what fails first in our climate is the base material, the edge restraint, or the joint sand. The pavers can often be reused when we rebuild the base, which lowers material cost on a driveway replacement. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you whether your pavers can be salvaged on a free estimate.
Yes, if the crack is in a single paver and the base underneath is stable. We remove the cracked paver, replace it with a matching unit (we source from IKO distributors and also from aftermarket suppliers when the line is discontinued), and re-sand the joints around it. If the cracking runs in a line across multiple pavers, the base is the problem and a repair will fail. We’ll tell you which one you have during the estimate.
Most paver repairs in Los Angeles take one to two days. Edge restraint replacement and re-sanding are single-day jobs. A full base rebuild with paver re-installation runs two to three days depending on square footage. You’ll get a written timeline in the quote, and we stick to it because Clause 1 of the Haven Standard requires the price and scope in writing before work begins.
We stock polymeric sand, edge restraints, bedding material, and base material on our trucks. IKO pavers themselves are ordered per project from local Los Angeles distributors, which takes three to five business days. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on the cabinetry and countertop side, so our sourcing relationships cover most of what a Los Angeles remodel needs. If you’re replacing a discontinued IKO paver, we’ll match the closest available unit and show you the sample before we install it.
