IKO Roofing: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

We stock and install the full IKO shingle line across Los Angeles, including Cambridge, Dynasty, Nordic, and Royal Estate profiles. A typical IKO roof repair in Los Angeles runs $470-$2,125, and a full IKO roof replacement runs $9,440-$23,600, depending on roof size, slope, and how many layers need to come off first. Most IKO failures show up the same way: you find granules in your gutter after a Santa Ana wind event, or you spot a shingle curled and cracked near a valley, or water staining appears on a ceiling after the dry stretch finally breaks. When that happens, the question isn’t whether to fix it. The question is whether your local roofer can actually match the IKO product you already have on the house.

Which IKO Models This Applies To

We work on every IKO residential line currently sold in Southern California: Cambridge (the most common architectural shingle), Dynasty (larger, heavier, wider exposure), Nordic (a premium architectural profile with deeper shadow bands), and Royal Estate (multidimensional, heavier look). The compatibility gotcha with IKO is the bundle color code. Two “gray” IKO shingles from different manufacturing runs can be visibly different on a roof, and LA sun exposure accelerates that difference. When we match a repair, we don’t just match the product name. We confirm the shingle dimensions, the nail strip location, and the color lot, because a Cambridge AR gray installed in 2021 won’t necessarily match a Cambridge AR gray produced in 2025. For aftermarket options, IKO fasteners and IKO’s StormLock underlayment have quality equivalents from the usual suppliers, but for shingles themselves we order OEM. The shingle is the roof. Saving $40 on an aftermarket shingle that doesn’t lay flat on a 5:12 pitch in Los Angeles isn’t savings, it’s a leak waiting for January. If you’re unsure what line you have, take a photo of the shingle next to a dollar bill for scale and bring it to the estimate. We’ll verify the line, profile, and color before we write a number.

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing

Signs Your IKO Roofing Is Failing
  • Granules accumulating in gutters and downspouts. This means the protective mineral surface is wearing off. In Los Angeles, UV exposure and thermal cycling accelerate granule loss faster than almost anywhere in the country. A little granule accumulation is normal after installation; a steady stream at the downspout elbow after every windy day is the shingle telling you its asphalt is breaking down.
  • Curling or lifting at shingle edges. This happens when the asphalt degrades and the shingle loses its ability to lie flat. South-facing slopes in LA neighborhoods like Pasadena and Culver City see this sooner than north-facing slopes, and we routinely replace single slopes where the sunny side fails a decade before the shaded side.
  • A corner missing from a shingle, usually near a roof penetration. Vents, skylights, and pipes create wind channels. A shingle that’s been pushed and pulled by years of Santa Ana gusts eventually cracks at the corner. When that corner goes, water gets a path to the underlayment, and from there it travels.
  • Bald spots on the shingle surface where you can see the fiberglass mat. This is the most serious wear signal. Once the granules are gone and the mat is exposed, UV breaks down the fiberglass itself, and the shingle loses its structural integrity. That roof section isn’t repairable. It’s a reroof section.
  • Interior water staining or bubbling paint on the ceiling after rain. By the time you see this, water has already passed the shingle, the underlayment, and the deck. The leak may have started months earlier. We trace the source carefully, because water travels along rafters and can show up fifteen feet from the actual breach.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A full IKO roof replacement in Los Angeles runs $9,440-$23,600. This includes tearing off the old roof to the deck, inspecting for dry rot, replacing any damaged decking at a stated per-sheet rate, installing new underlayment, new IKO shingles, new flashings at penetrations, and hauling away every piece of the old roof. The range is driven by three things: roof square footage, the number of layers being removed, and the pitch. A walkable 4:12 ranch roof costs less than a steep 8:12 side-gable. A Los Angeles roof with three layers of old shingle costs more to strip than one with a single layer. A repair runs $470-$2,125 for the typical single-slope or localized fix, including matching shingles, new underlayment at the affected area, and a written note of everything we found. Under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if something isn’t done right, we make it right. The promise is printed on every estimate. It’s backed by a process, not a handshake.

If you’re reasonably comfortable on a ladder and your roof has a gentle pitch, you can do a visual check from the top. Look for the signs above. Take photos. Measure your roof area roughly if you want to prepare for a quote. What you shouldn’t do is climb a steep LA hillside roof with a bundle of shingles and a nail gun. That’s when falls happen. Working on a roof above a second story, or on anything steeper than a 6:12 pitch, is not a weekend job. It requires tie-offs, roofing jacks, and people who’ve done it enough times to know which surfaces are stable and which aren’t. We do free written estimates across Los Angeles. The most useful thing you can do before calling is take four or five photos of the problem area, plus a photo of the roof from the street. That lets us come prepared. Call (470) 298-9650 and ask for a roofing estimate. The number we write is the number you get, and any change after that comes with a signed change order.

FAQs

How long do IKO shingles last in Los Angeles?
An IKO architectural shingle like Cambridge or Dynasty typically lasts 15-22 years in Los Angeles, compared to 20-30 in milder climates. Our sun exposure, thermal cycling, and periodic high wind all shorten lifespan. A south-facing slope can fail five or more years earlier than a north-facing slope. If your IKO roofing is passing 15 years of age, get an inspection before failure, not after. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll come look at it.

Can my IKO roofing be repaired instead of replaced?
Yes, if the damage is localized and the shingles around it still have granule coverage and aren’t curling. We can replace individual shingles, fix flashing at a penetration, reseal a valley, or replace a section of a slope. What we can’t do is restore a roof where the shingles themselves are spent, because the old shingles and the new shingles will never fuse into one uniform surface. The estimate tells you which situation you have.

How long does an IKO roof replacement take?
Most Los Angeles homes are complete in two to four working days. A tear-off and replacement on a single-story home with a simple roof shape can take two days. A larger two-story with complex hips and valleys, multiple layers to strip, and steep sections may take four. Weather interruptions are rare in LA, but high wind days will pause a job because shingles can’t lay properly in gusting wind. We’ll tell you the expected schedule in writing before any work starts.

Do you stock IKO shingles, or do you order them?
We stock the most commonly requested IKO colors and profiles in the LA market, and we order the rest. No roofer keeps every color lot of every IKO line on hand; the skus are too numerous. What we do is confirm your exact shingle, color, and lot availability before we schedule the job. Our sourcing depth across more than fifty brands means we’re not padding the number with inflated procurement costs. You get the honest price on the page, in writing, before anyone picks up a tool.
