James Hardie Driveway & Pavers: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide
If you’re searching for James Hardie driveway and pavers in Los Angeles, let’s clear up the main point right away: James Hardie manufactures fiber cement siding, trim, and backer board. They do not make driveway pavers, concrete, or asphalt products. What you likely have is a home where James Hardie siding or trim meets a driveway and paver system, and one or both have started to fail where they touch. The installed cost to replace or repair that intersection in Los Angeles typically runs $4,130 to $21,240 depending on whether we’re redoing the driveway, replacing pavers, or repairing the siding-to-paver transition. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover the problem after a winter rain, when water pools against the foundation edge or the siding shows staining at the bottom course.
At Rowan Construction Group, we’ve handled this exact condition across Los Angeles County for 18 years. We stock James Hardie trim, siding, and flashing on our trucks, and we work with Belgard and Techo-Bloc pavers alongside concrete and asphalt crews. The part that fails is rarely the James Hardie product itself. It’s the assembly: the gap, the flashing, the drainage plane, and the paver base underneath. We’ll walk you through what to check, what it costs, and when to call us at (470) 298-9650.
Which James Hardie Models This Applies To
Most Los Angeles homes built or re-sided between 2015 and 2025 use James Hardie HardiePlank lap siding, HardiePanel vertical siding, or HardieTrim boards at the base of the wall. Where those products meet a driveway or paver patio, the part that matters most is the HardieTrim bottom course and the flashing behind it. James Hardie’s installation spec requires a minimum 6-inch clearance from siding to finished grade, and 2 inches from trim to hardscape like a driveway or paver patio. In Los Angeles, we see that clearance violated constantly, because the original paver or concrete installer poured or packed right up to the wall. That one measurement tells us most of what we need to know.
OEM versus aftermarket is not really the decision for this intersection. For the siding and trim, we use James Hardie product only, because matching color and texture after a repair is a visual disaster otherwise. For the pavers themselves, we stock Belgard and Techo-Bloc, which are not James Hardie products but are the two paver lines we quote most often in Los Angeles because they hold up to our dry summers and winter rain cycles better than big-box equivalents. If you have the original receipt, look for a product code starting with “HZ” for HardieZone, which tells us which climate formulation you have. Los Angeles falls in HardieZone HZ10, the hot-dry zone.
Signs Your James Hardie Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

- Dark staining on the bottom 6 inches of siding. Water is wicking up from the paver base or driveway edge. The James Hardie product is absorbing moisture it was never meant to sit in. Left alone, you get paint failure first, then board swelling.
- Pavers sinking or lipping at the wall edge. The base material under the pavers is washing out or was never compacted in the first place. We see this in neighborhoods like Silver Lake and Los Feliz where hillside drainage pushes water toward the house.
- A visible gap between the bottom trim board and the pavers. Sometimes that gap means the pavers moved. More often it means water has been entering behind the trim and the flashing has failed. The gap is the symptom; the flashing is the diagnosis.
- Efflorescence, which is white chalky residue, on paver surfaces near the wall. Water is moving through the paver base and pulling minerals up. This is common in Los Angeles after two or three years of irrigation overspray hitting the same spot.
- Weed or grass growing through paver joints within a foot of the foundation. The joint sand is gone, and roots are following the water path. That means the drainage plane is working against you, not for you.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Los Angeles homeowners, the honest installed range for this work runs $4,130 to $21,240. The low end covers a paver repair with new joint sand and base rebuild in a small section, plus James Hardie trim replacement and flashing repair. The high end is a full driveway replacement with a new compacted base, new pavers or concrete, plus HardieTrim and bottom-course siding replacement with proper clearance. What drives the cost is two things: how much base material has to be excavated and re-compacted, and how much siding or trim has to come off to get the flashing right.
Every quote we write includes parts, labor, haul-away, the written scope, and a flat price. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone picks up a tool. No change proceeds without a signed change order. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the workmanship for a full year; the paver manufacturer’s warranty runs separately on the product side. You’ll also get a documented photo record of what we found, what we did, and what the finished joint looks like.
DIY or Call Us?

You can absolutely inspect this yourself. Walk the line where your James Hardie siding meets the driveway or pavers. Measure the clearance from the bottom of the siding to the top of the hardscape. If it’s under 6 inches, take a photo. Check for staining, gaps, and pavers that rock when you step on them. None of that requires tools. What you should not do is cut into the siding or pull trim boards to look at the flashing. That’s a waterproofing assembly, and a small mistake there lets water behind your wall for months before you see it inside. This is one of those repairs where the diagnosis and the demo need to happen in the same visit.
If your photos show clearance under 6 inches, staining, or moving pavers, call us at (470) 298-9650. We’ll send someone out, measure it properly, and give you a written price before any work starts.
FAQs
A correctly installed assembly lasts 30 to 50 years for the siding and 20 to 40 years for a properly built paver base. The failure point in Los Angeles is almost always the base compaction and the flashing, not the James Hardie product itself. If the clearance is right and water drains away, the assembly outlasts the paint on the wall. Call (470) 298-9650 and we’ll tell you what you have.
Yes, if the siding is not water-damaged. We can lift the affected pavers, rebuild the base, re-set them, and restore clearance by trimming only the bottom trim board, not the siding itself. But if the siding has been wicking water for years, partial repair just moves the problem down the wall. We’ll show you photos either way before we quote.
A paver edge repair with trim replacement is usually a one to two day job. A full driveway replacement with James Hardie trim and bottom-course siding runs three to five working days, depending on excavation depth and access. We’ll put the timeline in the written scope before you sign.
We stock James Hardie HardieTrim, flashing, and joint sand on our vehicles, plus a running inventory of Belgard and Techo-Bloc pavers in the most common Los Angeles colors. If your job needs a specific paver color or Hardie color that’s not on the truck, we order it and include the lead time in your quote. You’ll know before we start, not after.
