Kohler Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

A full Kohler kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single workstation sink and faucet or gutting the entire kitchen around Kohler’s cast iron and stainless lines. We stock the most-failed Kohler parts on our trucks, which means many faucet cartridge, sprayer hose, and sink strainer swaps happen the same visit. Most Los Angeles homeowners discover a failure the way you probably did: a faucet that drips at 3 a.m., a sprayer that won’t retract, or a sink rim that’s started separating from the countertop after a decade of use.

Rowan Construction Group is an independent contractor serving Los Angeles and nearby areas. We’re not a Kohler dealer or affiliated with Kohler. What we are is a remodeling firm that has installed and repaired enough Kohler product to know which parts fail in Southern California water conditions and which ones hold up.

Which Kohler Models This Applies To

Most Los Angeles kitchens built in the last 20 years carry one of three Kohler faucet platforms: the single-handle Simplice, the Sous (formerly the K-596), or the transitional Bellera. The part that fails most often across all three is the ceramic disc cartridge, which Kohler packages as the GP77759 for most single-lever models. Get this wrong and you’ll have a faucet that turns backwards or leaks from the handle base. The identifying number is stamped on the escutcheon plate or the valve body under the sink; matching it before ordering is the difference between a 20-minute swap and a three-day parts chase.

For sinks, the cast iron lines (Whitehaven, Iron/Tones) use a Kohler-specific drain assembly with a wider flange than the standard basket strainer you’d find on a stainless Prolific or Riverby. A generic box-store strainer won’t seat properly on a Whitehaven. We specify OEM Kohler drains on cast iron sink replacements, but for stainless undermount lines we’re comfortable using a plumbing-grade aftermarket assembly when the gauge and finish match. The aftermarket decision comes down to whether the part is visible (buy OEM) or hidden in the cabinet (quality aftermarket is fine).

Signs Your Kohler Kitchen Remodeling Failing

Signs Your Kohler Kitchen Remodeling Failing
  • Faucet drips after shutoff. The ceramic disc inside the cartridge has mineral buildup from Los Angeles hard water. In neighborhoods like Sherman Oaks and Pasadena, where calcium runs high, we see cartridges fail in 5 to 7 years instead of the 10 you’d get with softer water.
  • Sprayer head won’t stay seated in the spout. That’s the docking magnet or the counterweight on the hose under the sink. On the Sous line, the magnetic dock is the first thing to go; on older models, the nylon counterweight slides down the hose and the head droops.
  • Handle moves but water temperature won’t stay consistent. The cartridge seal is scored, usually from sediment that came through the supply line after a city main repair. Los Angeles DWP work stirs sediment into lines every few months.
  • Sink rim lifts or silicone starts peeling at the counter. The cast iron has shifted or the undermount clips backed out. On a 200-pound Whitehaven, that’s a two-person job with setting brackets, not a recaulk-and-go.
  • Rust streaks at the faucet base or under the handle. That’s the aerator seal or the O-ring at the cartridge failing, not the finish. Kohler’s Vibrant finishes don’t rust; the internal seals do.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A Kohler-specific kitchen remodeling project in Los Angeles runs $16,520 to $53,100 installed. The lower end covers a single fixture upgrade: a new Kohler faucet and sink swap with existing plumbing kept in place. The upper end is the full renovation: cast iron sink, new cabinetry around it, countertop cut and set to Kohler template specs, backsplash, and the plumbing rough-in if you’re moving the sink location.

What moves the number most in Los Angeles is cabinetry condition and countertop choice. A Cambria or Silestone slab cut for a Kohler undermount adds $4,500 to $7,600 to the job versus keeping existing countertops. Cabinets from KraftMaid replaced to fit a Whitehaven apron front run $4,700 to $15,300. Smaller scoped work, like a faucet and drain swap on an existing sink, falls into our standard plumbing service pricing, not the remodeling range. Every quote includes the part, the labor, the written scope, and our workmanship warranty. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price you see is the price you sign.

Replacing a Kohler cartridge is a 20-minute job if you have the right GP-number cartridge and a strap wrench. Most Los Angeles homeowners find the cartridge is harder to remove than expected because mineral deposits cement it in place, and forcing it scores the brass valve body. If the cartridge won’t lift out with firm, even pressure, stop. The next stage of force is where DIY faucet work becomes a plumbing call.

Cast iron sink replacement is not a homeowner job. A Whitehaven weighs 200 pounds and drops onto a setting rim that has to be dead level, or the sink rocks and the countertop cracks. We’ve rebuilt countertops in Los Angeles where a homeowner and a friend attempted this. The countertop repair cost more than the sink install would have, and then we installed it anyway.
