Mr-Glass Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

If you own a Mr-Glass bathroom fixture or enclosure in Los Angeles and a component has failed, a full Mr-Glass-specific bathroom remodel typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single failed element or rebuilding the wet zone around it. Most Los Angeles owners discover the problem the way you probably just did: a hinge has gone soft, a glass panel no longer seats square, or the frame is pulling away from tile that was never properly waterproofed behind it. We stock Mr-Glass-compatible hardware and replacement glass on our trucks for the most common failure points, and we can usually diagnose the exact issue in one visit.

Grant Rowan has been walking Los Angeles bathrooms for nearly two decades. The recurring theme is rarely the glass itself. It’s what the glass was mounted to.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To

Mr-Glass bathroom enclosures and fixtures come in several series lines, and the compatibility question matters more than most owners expect. The primary distinction is between framed and semi-frameless units. Framed Mr-Glass enclosures use aluminum channel profiles that are 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch wide, and the glass thickness is typically 3/16-inch or 1/4-inch. Semi-frameless Mr-Glass panels run 3/8-inch to 1/2-inch glass with heavier hinge hardware rated for the additional weight. A gotcha we see in Los Angeles regularly: an owner replaces a 1/4-inch door with 3/8-inch glass using the original hinges, and six months later the hinge pin shears because the hardware was never rated for the heavier panel.

OEM Mr-Glass parts are available through plumbing supply distributors in the Los Angeles area, but lead times run two to three weeks for less common hardware. Quality aftermarket equivalents from CRL and Frameless Hardware Company often match the original spec at 40 to 60 percent of the OEM price, and we spec them routinely where the original part is no better than what replaced it. The decisive factor is the hinge geometry: Mr-Glass uses a 90-degree and 135-degree hinge pattern on most glass-to-glass and glass-to-wall connections, and we measure before we order anything. We also carry compatible parts for KraftMaid cabinet hardware, Cambria vanity tops, and Silestone surfaces where a Mr-Glass enclosure meets the vanity line, since that intersection is where water damage starts.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Mr-Glass Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • The door drags or won’t stay closed. The hinge has worn or the glass has sagged slightly out of square. In a Mr-Glass enclosure, this usually traces back to the bottom pivot wearing against the threshold channel. Left alone, the sag accelerates and the top hinge begins pulling from the wall.
  • Water is collecting at the base of the glass, not in the shower. The weep holes in the bottom track are clogged, or the silicone seal between the track and the tile has failed. Los Angeles hard water accelerates mineral buildup in those weep holes faster than owners expect.
  • Black staining at the wall-to-glass joint. This is mold behind the silicone, which means water has been traveling into the wall cavity. The silicone bead looks fine from the outside. It’s not fine behind it.
  • The frame is pulling away from the tile. The original installer anchored into drywall instead of a stud or a solid blocking detail. In Los Angeles remodels done through the 1990s and early 2000s, we see this constantly. The anchors hold until they don’t.
  • You hear a creak or click when the door moves. A hinge has lost tension or a roller bearing has flattened. This is the earliest warning sign, and it’s the cheapest moment to fix it. Most owners ignore the click until the glass binds.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For a Mr-Glass-specific bathroom remodel in Los Angeles, the price lands between $10,620 and $33,040. The spread comes down to scope. A glass panel replacement with new hardware starts near the bottom of that range. A full wet-zone rebuild, meaning the enclosure comes out, the waterproofing membrane gets inspected and likely replaced, the tile is reset or replaced, and the Mr-Glass glass is reinstalled or replaced, runs toward the top. A small bathroom remodel that includes this work starts at $5,900, and a walk-in shower installation with Mr-Glass-compatible glass starts at $5,310.

Every quote is written before any work starts, under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard. That number is flat, the scope is written, and the warranty is written. If a change comes up during demo or install, no work proceeds until you sign the change order. Across 4,000-plus projects since 2007, that discipline is what has kept our final invoices within a few percent of the number you agreed to. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work, and every visit includes a documented photo record, so you’ll see what we found behind that Mr-Glass enclosure before you pay for what we did about it.

There are two things you can safely check yourself. First, run a thin piece of paper along the bottom sweep. If the seal is broken, water is escaping. Second, check whether the glass has shifted by measuring the gap at the hinge side versus the strike side. Any difference over 1/8-inch means the door has settled. That’s where DIY ends. Removing a Mr-Glass panel means handling tempered glass that weighs 8 to 12 pounds per square foot, and a broken tempered panel shatters into hundreds of cubes that scatter across a wet tile floor. The hinge hardware is under constant tension, and the wall anchors are often hidden inside the wall cavity. If the original waterproofing has failed, the only fix is opening the wall, which is a permitted structural repair in Los Angeles, not a weekend project.
