PGT Bathroom Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

PGT bathroom remodeling in Los Angeles typically runs $10,620 to $33,040 for a full bathroom replacement, including new fixtures, waterproofing, and finish work. We stock and install PGT-compatible shower enclosures, glass panels, and hardware, and in most cases we can have your new PGT parts measured and installed within five to seven business days of the written quote. Most owners discover a PGT part has failed the hard way: a shower door starts dragging, a hinge loosens and won’t retighten, or a glass panel develops a rattle that gets worse every morning.

We’re an independent contractor, not a PGT dealer or affiliate. That matters for one reason: we don’t have to sell you a factory bundle. We match what’s on your wall, tell you what it costs, and put the number in writing before any work starts. That’s the discipline Grant Rowan built this company on in 2007, and it’s the same discipline we apply to every PGT bathroom remodel we take on across Los Angeles County.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s bathroom product lines fall into three families: the 1500/2500 series sliding and swinging shower doors, the VinylView and ClearView fixed glass panels, and a smaller line of frameless enclosures built under the WinGuard label for coastal and high-wind zones. Compatibility is rarely interchangeable across these families. A 1500-series roller assembly will not fit a WinGuard track, and a ClearView hinge pin is sized differently from the 2500 series even though both look like a standard 3/8-inch pin at a glance.

Here’s the check that saves time and money: look at the bottom corner of the glass panel or the top rail of the door. PGT acid-etches the series number into the metal or glass edge, usually within six inches of a corner. If the etching is worn off, measure the glass thickness. PGT sliding doors run 3/16-inch or 1/4-inch glass; frameless WinGuard panels are 3/8-inch. That measurement alone eliminates half the wrong parts before we even open the truck.

On OEM versus aftermarket: PGT’s factory hardware is solid but priced at factory margins. For rollers, hinge pins, and door sweeps, we routinely install aftermarket equivalents from CRL and Prime-Line that meet or exceed the original spec. For glass panels themselves, aftermarket is rarely worth the risk. The tempering standard, edge finish, and hole placement are too specific. We quote OEM glass on any PGT panel replacement and aftermarket only on mechanical hardware where the material spec is published and verifiable.

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • The door drags or binds when you slide it. This is almost always a roller assembly losing its bearing surface. PGT rollers on the 1500/2500 series ride on nylon wheels over an aluminum track, and Los Angeles hard water accelerates the wear by leaving mineral deposits that grind the nylon down. Once the wheel is scored, the door rides on the track edge and the binding gets worse by the week.
  • A hinge loosens and won’t stay tight. The threads in PGT’s aluminum frame strips are tapped at the factory. Once those threads strip from overtightening or repeated adjustment, no amount of tightening fixes it. The repair is a new frame strip or a threaded insert, not a new screw.
  • Water seeps under the door or panel even when it’s closed. The vinyl sweep on PGT doors hardens with age and exposure to cleaning products. Los Angeles owners who use bleach-based shower sprays see this failure two to three years earlier than those who don’t. The sweep is a five-minute swap, but the water damage it allows is not.
  • The glass rattles in the frame. PGT glazing gaskets lose their compression after roughly eight to ten years in our climate. The glass isn’t loose in the opening; the gasket has simply flattened. It’s cosmetic at first, but a rattling panel puts stress on the hinge screws and will eventually crack a corner.
  • Cloudy white deposits build up at the glass edges. This is mineral intrusion between the glass and the frame. In Los Angeles, our water runs hard in most neighborhoods, and once deposits get between the glass edge and the gasket, they can’t be cleaned out from the surface. It’s a sign the seal has failed and moisture is sitting in a place it shouldn’t.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A PGT bathroom remodel in Los Angeles breaks into three price bands. A full bathroom remodel with PGT glass, new shower pan, tile, fixtures, and hardware runs $10,620 to $33,040 depending on bathroom size and finish level. A shower-only PGT enclosure replacement, with new glass and hardware but no tile or pan work, runs $5,310 to $14,160. A hardware-only swap, replacing rollers, hinges, sweeps, and gaskets on existing PGT glass, runs $945 to $3,540.

Every quote includes the same line items: removal and disposal of the old parts, new hardware or glass, installation labor, sealant, and a written workmanship warranty. We don’t bury disposal fees or add a surprise trip charge. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts, and no change proceeds without a signed change order. That’s how we’ve kept 4,000-plus projects within a few percent of the agreed number since 2007.

There’s an honest split here. A homeowner can safely replace a PGT door sweep, clean the track, or remove visible mineral deposits with a vinegar solution. Those are maintenance tasks, not repairs, and doing them yourself will extend the life of your hardware.

What an owner should not do is attempt to remove or reseat a PGT glass panel. These panels weigh 40 to 80 pounds, they’re tempered, and when a tempered panel touches tile at the wrong angle it doesn’t crack slowly. It detonates into thousands of small pieces. The hinge hardware on PGT frameless doors is under constant tension too. If a panel is loose, rattling, or misaligned, that’s a call to (470) 298-9650. We’ll measure, quote, and install it with the right tools and a second set of hands, and the photo record of what we found and fixed comes standard on every visit.
