Tamko Kitchen Remodeling: The Los Angeles Owner’s Guide

Tamko kitchen remodeling parts and materials installed in Los Angeles typically run $16,520 to $53,100 for a full kitchen, with most owners discovering a failed component mid-project: a warped cabinet door, a delaminating countertop edge, or a backsplash pulling away from the wall. We’re an independent Los Angeles contractor, not affiliated with Tamko, and we stock compatible replacement parts plus the full lines of KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for swaps that need to move fast. If you have a Tamko product that’s failing, the question is rarely whether to fix it. It’s whether to replace the part or redo the section, and what the honest number is before anyone picks up a tool.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko is better known in Los Angeles for roofing and waterproofing products, but the kitchen side of the brand’s catalog covers laminate countertops, backsplash panels, and cabinet hardware lines that show up in mid-2000s to late-2010s remodels. The compatibility gotcha with Tamko kitchen products is the edge profile: their laminate counters use a specific radius on the bullnose and a matching backsplash channel that aftermarket brands like Formica or Wilsonart don’t always match. If your countertop has a Tamko stamp underneath the front lip or inside the sink cutout, don’t buy a generic replacement edge piece. The color match will be off by a shade, and the seam will telegraph it.

For OEM versus aftermarket: genuine Tamko parts are worth the wait for anything visible. For anything structural underneath, like cabinet suspension rails or sink support braces, a quality aftermarket equivalent from a known manufacturer works as well and often costs 30 to 40 percent less. Bring us the model number off the underside of the counter or the inside face of the cabinet door, and we’ll tell you which route makes sense before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your Tamko Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
  • Countertop edge delaminating near the sink. Water intrusion lifts the laminate from the particleboard core. In Los Angeles, hard-water mineral deposits accelerate this once the seal breaks. If you see a white chalky line under the lip, the core is already swelling.
  • Backsplash pulling away at the grout line. This is almost always a substrate problem, not a tile problem. The original installer skimped on the waterproofing membrane or used mastic where a modified thinset was required. The tile is fine; the wall behind it isn’t.
  • Cabinet doors no longer close flush. Hinges on Tamko-spec cabinet lines wear unevenly when the door’s moisture content fluctuates. In LA’s dry inland zones, door panels shrink; along the coast, they swell. Either way, a 1/8-inch gap means the hinge cup needs replacement, not adjustment.
  • Soft-close drawers slamming. The damper cartridge inside the drawer glide has failed. It’s a $30 part sitting inside a drawer box that most owners assume needs full replacement. It doesn’t.
  • Dark staining at the counter-to-backsplash junction. That’s mold or mildew wicking up from a failed seal. The silicone bead has separated from the laminate, and water is getting behind the joint. You are looking at a remediation job, not a recaulk.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A partial Tamko kitchen repair in Los Angeles, like a laminate counter run with a new backsplash, runs $2,360 to $7,670. A full kitchen remodel where the Tamko components are torn out and replaced runs $16,520 to $53,100. The spread is driven by linear feet of countertop, cabinet count, whether the substrate behind the backsplash needs rebuilding, and whether we’re matching an existing Tamko line or sourcing a different brand.

Every written price from Rowan Construction Group includes parts, labor, disposal, and a documented photo record of what we found and what we did. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, the number is written before work starts, and no change proceeds without a signed change order. That’s the discipline that has kept our projects within a few percent of the agreed cost across 4,000-plus Los Angeles jobs since 2007.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect the underside of the counter for the model stamp, check cabinet hinge screws for stripping, and photograph the failing area for us before you call. What you shouldn’t do is attempt laminate edge repair or backsplash removal on your own. Cutting into a counter to replace an edge requires a router with a flush-trim bit and a steady hand, and one wrong pass destroys the entire run. Backsplash removal often reveals water-damaged drywall that needs replacement before new tile goes up. If you hit mold, you need containment, not elbow grease.

If the failure is cosmetic or confined to a single cabinet component, a careful homeowner with a good tape measure can usually handle it. If it involves water, substrate, or anything that would require a second pair of hands, call us at (470) 298-9650. We’ll give you a written price before anyone starts, and we’ll show up with the part matched to your Tamko line.
