PGT Construction in Austin, CA | Rowan Construction Group
We provide independent PGT service across Austin, from impact window retrofits in Crestview to sliding door remediation on east side slabs. The thing that makes our PGT work here different is simple: we know which side of the Balcones Escarpment your house sits on, and we know what that means for your windows and doors before we ever write a price. That’s the kind of local knowledge you get from PGT sales & service work done by a contractor that has been documenting every job since 2007. If your PGT windows are fogging, binding, or leaking, call (470) 298-9650 for a written estimate.
Why Austin Residents Choose Us for PGT Service
We’ve rebuilt PGT WinGuard balances, swapped fogged IGUs, and re-hung 5500 Series sliding doors in Austin homes from Brentwood to Travis Heights. Grant Rowan trained in construction technology at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, where the coursework covered framing and estimating before he ever took a paying job, and that discipline carries into how we approach PGT work: measure the frame, check the reveal, document what’s there, then write the number.
We’re an independent PGT service provider. We’re not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized, which means we don’t have to sell you a whole new unit when a seal kit and new balance shoes would do the job. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, you get a written price before any work starts. We stock OEM PGT seal kits, balance shoes, and screen mesh locally, and we substitute proven aftermarket rollers and weatherseals when originals are backordered. You’ll know which one applies to your job before we start, not after.
Common PGT Construction Problems We Solve in Austin

- Fogged or failed thermal seals in PGT WinGuard units. Austin’s hard-freeze/thaw cycles, most notably the February 2021 Winter Storm Uri, pushed a lot of older WinGuard insulated glass units past their seal life. We replace failed IGUs with new PGT WinGuard panes matched to the existing finish, and we check the frame square before we order glass.
- Binding or dragging PGT 5500 Series sliding doors on east Austin slabs. Expansive black Vertisol clay shrinks during drought and heaves when it rains, which torques door frames on post-tension slabs in Pflugerville, Manor, and Southeast Austin. The door starts dragging, then it won’t latch. We re-square the frame where possible and rebuild the rollers with OEM or aftermarket parts depending on what’s actually worn.
- Worn or brittle weatherstripping after drought-driven heat exposure. Austin’s position between the humid Gulf Coast and the semi-arid Hill Country means long stretches of dry heat. PGT weatherseals get hard, crack, and stop sealing. We replace them with matching-profile seals and check the sash alignment while we’re in there.
- Cracked or UV-degraded Eze-Breeze vinyl glazing panels. Eze-Breeze is a great product for Austin porches, but the high-sun climate takes a toll on vinyl panels over time. Hail impact cracks them; UV makes them brittle. We stock replacement panels and can usually turn these around faster than a full window job.
- Fogging and stiffness after Winter Storm Uri retrofits. We’ve seen a wave of Austin homes where PGT units were caulked and sealed urgently after the 2021 storm, and now those seals are failing. The original install was fine; the emergency sealing wasn’t. We correct the drainage plane and re-seal properly.

AfterPGT Service in Austin: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Austin’s Heritage Tree ordinance is the one local factor that changes how PGT work gets done here, and it doesn’t exist in Round Rock or Cedar Park. Any tree 19 inches or larger in diameter requires a city permit and mitigation payment to remove, and Heritage trees at 24 inches or more are effectively untouchable. That means on infill lots in established central neighborhoods, we routinely have to reconfigure existing window openings rather than cut new ones. You want a wider PGT WinGuard unit? Not if a protected live oak sits outside that wall. We redesign the fenestration, keep the opening, and maximize glass performance within the existing frame. That constraint adds design time, but it also means we’ve gotten very good at squeezing real performance out of the openings we’re allowed to keep. West of the escarpment, we’re anchoring into shallow Edwards Plateau limestone, which means different flashing and different fastener schedules. East of it, we’re fighting clay heave. Same PGT product, two different installs.
In Crestview, we replaced four PGT WinGuard aluminum single-hung windows on a 1960s ranch that had developed fogged glass and stiff operation after Winter Storm Uri. The original frames were square but the sashes dragged, so we rebuilt the balances with OEM parts and swapped the fogged IGUs for new WinGuard panes matching the existing bronze finish. Because a Heritage live oak overhung the east wall, we could not enlarge the openings, so we prioritized maximum solar gain through existing fenestration instead of cutting new ones. That’s the job.
PGT Models & Products We Service in Austin

We work on PGT WinGuard Aluminum, PGT 5500 Series, PGT SpectraGuard, and PGT Eze-Breeze, across Austin service area homes from Allandale to Manor. Our parts approach is straightforward: OEM seal kits, balance shoes, and screen mesh first, because they keep the warranty-adjacent performance PGT engineered. When originals are backordered or discontinued, we use proven aftermarket rollers and weatherseals that we’ve tested on Austin jobs over the years. We stock common PGT parts locally so the turnaround on a sash rebuild or IGU swap doesn’t stall while something ships from Florida. Every job gets a documented photo record, so you can see what we found and what we replaced.
PGT Service Pricing in Austin
What we can tell you before a site visit: the work falls into two honest ranges. Fence Installation - Austin aside, impact window installation on an Austin home runs $8,000 to $25,000 depending on opening count, frame condition, and whether we’re cutting new openings or working within Heritage Tree constraints. Standard window replacement runs $4,500 to $15,000. What drives the difference? Frame squareness, existing flashing condition, whether the sashes are salvageable, and which side of the escarpment you’re on. We don’t quote over the phone. We come out, measure, check the reveal, and hand you a written line-item price. Call (470) 298-9650 to schedule a free estimate.

FAQs - PGT Construction in Austin
Yes, in most cases a cracked insulated glass unit can be replaced without pulling the entire window frame. What matters is whether the frame itself stayed square through the freeze. If the sash is square and the crack is confined to the IGU, we order a matching WinGuard pane and swap it. If the frame twisted, you may be looking at a full sash replacement. Call (470) 298-9650 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
Often yes. The expansive black Vertisol clay under east Austin slabs moves with moisture, and that movement torques door frames. If your PGT 5500 door is dragging or won’t latch, the rollers might be shot, but the real question is whether the frame is still square. We check the frame with a level and square before we touch parts. Sometimes it’s a roller rebuild. Sometimes the opening needs re-shimming or the header needs attention. We’ll document what we found and tell you what it means in plain terms.
The ordinance protects any tree 19 inches or larger in diameter, which means you can’t just cut a bigger opening if a protected tree sits outside that wall. We have to reconfigure existing openings or redesign the fenestration plan. That adds design time but also means we’ve gotten good at maximizing performance within the openings you’re allowed to keep. If you’re planning a remodel with larger windows, we’ll flag the tree issue on the first visit.
Eze-Breeze vinyl panels hold up in Austin heat for years, but prolonged UV exposure will eventually make them brittle, and hail impact can crack them. We stock replacement panels and can usually swap a damaged panel without replacing the entire Eze-Breeze system. If you’re building a new screened porch and want Eze-Breeze, we’ll spec it straight. If you’re repairing an older install, we’ll tell you honestly whether the panels are worth salvaging.
If the frames are square, the glass is clear, and the only issue is weatherstripping or balance shoes, repair makes sense. If the insulated glass units are fogged, the frames have been racked by clay movement, or the sashes are binding from years of drought-driven frame shift, replacement usually costs less than trying to save units that are already past their service life. We’ll show you the numbers side by side and let the condition of the frame decide. Call (470) 298-9650 for an exact quote.
